Oil Creek

I just published a webpage on Oil Creek http://feighner.googlepages.com/riversandstreamsofnwpennsylvania

For anybody who has never fished Oil Creek before and would like some basic information about the area, fishing, and visiting.

The Oil Creek page is part of a project I started on fishing Northwest Pennsylvania http://feighner.googlepages.com/fishingnorthwesternpennsylvania

Let me know what you think I could do to improve them.

Thanks,

Pappy

Thats great Pappy, will you be adding to it with reports and such or is it just an informational page?

    Thanks for sharing,
    Mike

Thanks, Mike.  This is an informational page.  I don't fish Oil Creek that much.  The go to guy around here for Oil Creek is Dano, pictured tieing on a fly.

    Pappy,

Very nice page.  Is there any way that you could post of PM me the flow rates when the water is fishable.  When I am at camo I do not have internet access so Its tough for me to see the creek and then check the rates so I have a good idea of what flow rate equals fishable water.

    Thanks,

Rick, I just checked on establishing a link on my page with the Army Engineers flow chart, but learned that the computer network is a Department of Defense network and it's unlawful to connect to it.  If I learn it's OK, I'll put a link up.  Otherwise, if you just put  "Oil Creek flow rate" in a google search box, you'll find a link leading to the information.

    Pappy,

Thanks for the response.  I know where to find the info, but I do not know what a fishable level is.  An example would be:  Perfect = x flow Too high = Y flow, Too low = Z flow.

    Thanks again,

Perfect is when you are there, too high is when your not, too low is when your buddy is there without you.

I found a link from the Geological Survey that I posted on the site. You can see that Oil Creek rose to about 10 ft when we got all the rain.  It's back to a relatively normal 2.74 ft today.

Hey, I'm no expert at reading stream flow charts, but if it's at 0, the creek is dry.  Don't know what the flood level is for Oil Creek.

    Pappy, Fabulous work.
This is the link I use for flow data:
    http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/uv?03020500

A bit of State Park Info.
There is a 10 mile paved bike trail that parallels the creek from Drakes Well to Petroleum Center.
Also, a 26 mile train ride around the park which starts a Drakes.
Here's a link to a  PDF format map from the DCNR:

I was riding my bike along the creek Sunday. I didn't see one person fishing all day. Is Oil Creek to hot, or too low to fish in the summer. I've fished there in the spring, but never been to the park in the heat of summer.
