Edinboro lake bass fishing

I'm heading up to try edinboro lake for the first time in 15 years and would like to know if anyone can lead me in the right direction on how to start.  Are  any smallie there?  From what I remember, there was alot of vegatation.  Any info would be appreciated.  I may have a youngster with me that would love to hook into something other than blue gills.

My advice is go in the channel around dusk (stay till dark), and throw big spinners working the shore and docks. The last time i was there that was the hot spot for large mouth, no smallies this year. But last year i caught plenty of small mouths in the channel. good luck

I have not been there in weeks, so I don't know the seaweed situation. If you have a kid 12 years or less, take the kid to the kids area behind the dam. I almost pooped my pants the last time I looked there.

There are some big carp in Mallory Run, if you want to give the kids a memorable fish to land.

Im a student at edinboro university and fished this lake constantly throughout the year. Ive caught some of the biggest smallies of my life on this lake at one of the most unusual places. Head towards the cemetary right off of the lake and youll see a little beach area with a picnice table grove. Fish that area using medium sized spinners and rooster tails. Ive caught 6 smallies in under an hour there all within the 13"17" range. Just before dark is the best time. Also caught a gigantic Largemouth there one time on a 4" perch. I have pictures on my cell phone. Ill try to upload them later.

I remember the cemetary being very weedy with a lot of lilly pads on it .  Is the beach close to the road?  Are there any spots in deaper water for drop shoting for smallies, or is flippin grass edges and pockets for large mouths the ticket.  I'm trying to hook the larger fish for the youngster to keep him excited.  The lake is small so fishing it would be easier to keep his interest.  what about the creek or fingers?

Yes the beach is only a couple feet from the road. No one ever uses it. Last time i went there were very few weeds and almost zero lilly pads. That was about a month ago so a lot could have changed since then. I would try the grass edges and pockets. thats where i got most of my luck. As for deeper areas i know that on the west side of the lake it gets very deep very fast in some areas. Trying those areas could lead to success. If it turns out to be a slower day, head over to mallory lake, on the college's campus, and try throwing some spinners and crawlers. Ive spent hours there just before dark catching bass almost every other cast. Couple decent sized ones at that! Pappy is also right about mallory run. There ae some GIANTS down there that i would love to get my hook into. Havent fished the rest of the stream very much but know people who do religously and have amazing success with trout. Im anxious to hear how you do. If you could send a report once you got back that would be awesome.

Edinboro is the first lake I remember fishing and has a lot of memories of those now gone.
I would love to make it back for a day on the water.
Can you you put in a pontoon boat from the lake road by the old bait sales or is that private?

I don't plan on keeping any of the fish after reading about the pollution however it still is one of the things I remember well.

Luke, There is a boat launch on Lakeside Drive.  It might be the same place your talking about, but the old baitstore and marina is closed.  If you drive to the main beach, the public launch is right next to the beach.

    Pappy,
Yes that's it. It looks like there is still a ramp there and open lot where the baitstore was and thought about launching and leaving the trailer there while out.

There is many nice carp. But my eyes saw the 2 musky(1 almost 20 and the other close to 30), and the legal eyes and bass. I'm sure a kid would have a memorial day with a small musky among the other stuff.
