So lets see. Today I wanted to give the 55 Johnson a good work out. Perch, last years problem was a gummed up carb and she was not getting fuel, all GOOD now.
started with the fly rod , casting & stripping. Nothing... Head up creek and the hoards of scapers were in force . Herring ,in the head waters. Shame , most taking more then they will use...
Anyway, I started trolling back down stream first using tried & true methods ans , slamm.

this guy was huge, I held the fish as far away from me as I could and still filled the lens.
Back to trolling and WHAM... another red eye... So now I figure Fly rod time...

EASY pickins.. at least a dozen red eyes before they quit , all hard fighters.

Again back to trolling.. WACK.... yea the way this fish was sounding no smallie here. Yup first silver side of the year, not hughe (20") but a striped bass of 09.

Put him back and make another run through the hole... rod bends , fish starts heading to surface, Yup.. another red eye.. Once again make another pass and ZZZZZZZ.. Rod buckles and drag goes out... Fish is sounding, sure feels like a striper and I see silver... Striper # 2 of 09..  25" and this one is going to the new electric knife (AWESOME knife, THANK YOU Perch)

Now of course these are not the Linesiders that are yet to come but to me still a Ocean Run Striped Bass....

As said: The big boys will be here By 4/30...

Great going RJ, Todd was out messing around with the boat 1st time this year. While out he threw in a few chunks and his daughter caught a striper too !! Now that the boats and docks are ready to go, next weekend will not come fast enough for me. I'm stoked now !!!!

Brian, I see Todd's daughter did get a nice one... WAY TO GO GIRL!!! easy spot burn there (lol) My bro-inlaws 29 footer is docked in the water now VERY close to there.
Downside, A greene county tackle shop reported a 42" in my little area today.. well this is all FALSE... I was in all day and NOBODY was doing anything on silvers.. Everyone was scaping herring. Now oh Now after that report more idiots (sorry but there were some today) will be invading .

Keep an eye out (or closed ) for the possible floater who went in up river yesterday.

    Wow i didn't even hear about a floater ?!?!

Not worried about "that" spot LOL , it gets all jammed up through there no matter what during the heat of the season.

Things should be very good next weekend.

Nice smallies to RJ , they are very fun !!

Brian  I would certainly be honored to be aboard the SS REELFORCE.  Hey does it run on gas or on beer?  Either way I'll help ya out brother.
PERCHY  it's already a clusterfork down at Brunos I was there today and 5 lines were in.  Guys were getting herring in crick ,even at low tide.   I've got a quieter spot on shore if you want to check it out with me... only enough room for a couple guys there, and you cant fish it at high tide.  You can hit the deep water from there, and at least there aint 10 guys trying to take up 25 feet of space. Its about a 1/2 mile walk from the lot.
Can't go monday as I am going down to Yankee Stadium to get rained out.

I am back from Massachusetts and still fishin'...

As for Stripers- I have just about given up on them!!!

I expect I will be out there more than once before (or after) work chasing some on the Hudson- but after last season I think I decided that Spring weekends are best spent in the ADKs.  But I still do want a Striper!

To be honest...  I've spent my share on chasing both...  And had no luck with either...

But all that time in the boat keeps me on my game and full of witty one liners...

I remember a few tackle shops that come and gone over the decades on rt 28 going fishing towards the esopus and ashokan carrying alot of striper tackle for that woodstock area of the hudson.. never checked out that fishery but i imagine there must be striper fishing going on that way!

i too plan on some overnighters, only my boat is 14' !  Still beats an ovenighter in the canoe..   When night fishing do you prefer cut or alive bait? Would anyone think at night they would hit a surface popper type lure?

although it is a cold april, i imagine the snow melt is all but gone and what rain we get now has to be helping speed up water temps. It's still in the lower 40s but heating up fast!

    Stripers, Stripers, Stripers...

I am still waiting for the first sweet photo from Brian or Perch...  I know it's coming soon.

Ship O' Toole will be lading them up by later next week too, no doubt.

I might shoot for an evening run on Thursday or something if the weather holds.  If not then next week is the time.  I am entertained enough with jigging up herring and shad on the ultralight- so I need to ensure they are there in big numbers to prevent boredom and overdrinking.

I like the idea of an overnighter in mid-season though.  That would be a good time on that sweet boat.

Way nicer than my house, man.

Go get 'em Striper Guys!  I think we've got some of the better Albany area Striper guys on board here, and with the cross-memberships with Stripers24/7 we've got just about everything on "Lock Down" around here.

But still- RJ's the only one producing any Striper photos and he was in a boat with a motor from the 50s...

Ummmmm...  Sweet motor though, Dude.  T
