I've always been a BIG fan of French Creek.  Lots of good places for them and have had a couple summer afternoons wading of 40+ smallmouth.

French Creek has good smallie water from Union City all the way down through Cambridge Springs, Saegertown, certain sections (just look for smallie type water, undercuts, boulders, eddys, etc.) of around Meadville, all the way down to Franklin where it meets the Allegheny.

My personal favorite is a float from the Woodcock hole (south of Saegertown) down to the old Avtex building in Meadville.  LOTS of smallies and rock bass an occasional northern and walleye as well.  Stop your float at the really good looking sections and work them over.  There are some dandies between Saegertown and Meadville.

I agree with Storm. I also like to wade fish between the ball fields in the 5th Ward and Mead Ave in Meadville. There are some good holes that hold a lot of fish. Don't forget to cast into the rapids also, they are over looked by a lot of people.

NO smallies in French Creek.  They packed up and moved to the Allegheny!
