Allegheny River, Tidioute

Anyone fish there lately? Know of any good spots? Any info on water levels? Will be up there this weekend for the first time.

The river is very low up north. There are no weeds. Water temp around 68 and some tough fishing lately. Hope this helps.

Fishing the river has been good for us.  While reeling in fish last weekend there almost always was additional bass chasing the hooked one trying to take whatever the hooked one was trying to eat.  When the river is low and clear change your tatics.  Most of the bass we caught were very dark colored, because they were hiding and ambushing prey.  Bigger fish will be spooked more easy than the small ones, so, make long casts, fish in moving water, use small lifelike baits to match what's in the river or use more subtle spinner baits with small baldes and natural colored skirts.  This time of year is also a great time to use live baits like riffle runners, crawfish and helegramites.

I drifted down from kinzua to warren.  I used a black and white rooster tail.  The trout killed it.  I got 2 little bass on it.  I tried black rapalas, dark crawfish lure, and a dark green jig.  I couldnt catch any bass.  I also used riffle runners.  I couldn't catch but a few little bass on riffle runners in the river, but kinzua outflow and tionesta outflow I caught some and the ones I caught were all nice.

Are riffle runners like chubs or suckers?

Riffle Runners are shaped more like a small musky or walleye, are about 3" - 5" long and have some distinct markings and stripes.  You catch them in the rapids or riffle areas near the shore.  Use a very small hook i.e. #22 using 2 lb. line and a tiny piece of worm.  I tie up some hooks with 2 lb. leader and keep them on a snelled hook holder.  It can be a lot of fun just catching the minnies.

Do they work better than other baits or are they the same as minnes you buy in the shop?

They are the "real deal".  Fatheads are not native to the river and would be a substitute to the baits the fish are usually eating.  Same thing goes for the river chubs.  If you can catch some in a minnow trap or with a hook they will be a good bait to use.  It's kinda of like fishing for Perch on Erie, you can use fatheads but will catch more fish using Emerald Shiners.

Didn't do real good but caught 8 smallmouth on sat. All on a rebel crayfish crankbait. Lost a few fish. Seen a few big ones. It would have been better but a good cold front moved in. It was 43 degrees saturday night!

Right now rooster tails. #6 c p swings, and 4-5" floating rapalas are the lures to use. Emerald or spottail shiners, black suckers, and the riffle runners are the bait of choice. That combination will take everything the river has to offer. Chubs or horn dace might be better if Musky is the target.

Just got back form a week long vacation spent fishing the river.  We did best using safety pin spinners with a natural colored skirt and soft plastics.  Did not even try using any live baits this time.  Depending on where we fished the plastics we used were Zoom 6" flukes, Case mad toms and tubes to match the water color and depth.  Top water and buzz baits did not work at all, even at dark.   Many, many 7" to 11" bass, some larger and the largest being 19 1/2".  Water is super clear and low.  We did manage to catch two walleye using X-Raps.  My brother-in-law's walleye was 27" and mine a paltry 17".  Drifting thru some sections of river was like "looking into an aquariam" you could see everything down to 6'.
