Franklin area/cheap places

With trout season near I like Sugar Creek, and Oil Creek areas for trout fishing. Does anyone know of a cheap place to stay, bed and hot shower? Maybe something like a cabin $50 to $60 a night......... Thanks

Your best bet is probably the Super 8 motel which is on Route 8 between Franklin and Oil City. The Quality Inn located in Franklin has a seperate wing of rooms that are a little cheaper than the main motel, these rooms used to be a seperate motel but Quality purchased it.

I'm not aware of any cabins in this area.

I don't know if the Wyattville Country Store still rents their cabins or not. They have little log cabins right at the intersection of Routes 322 and 427, right along Sugar Creek. I can ask Darryl the next time I'm out that way, which will be at least next week. Otherwise, Ready2Fish has it. Also the Idlewood Motel rents by the week, it is on 15th Street Hill (Route 8 south of Franklin as you come down the hill into town). Also Two Mile Run Park has three small houses that they rent by the week but I have no idea of cost on them. I can try to dig up a website on them if you'd like.

The Idlewood is a dump but it is the only cheap place by Franklin that we could find last fall. If your on a budget and not picky, that's the place. If you want heat check your room as soon as you get in it before you unload your stuff because we had 3 rooms and 2 didn't have much heat. I was OK with the place but my wife and the others don't want to stay there again.

If your looking for a place to eat in Franklin try Leonardos downtown, we had great food there and it's very reasonable.

Now Eric, don't be dissing my "clientele"! It's not that they don't shower, they just enjoy being close to nature. Besides, they made Charlie shower three times a week when he was in jail.

The Idlewood isn't the Taj Mahal but is OK if you just want a place to shower, change, and run. It's kind of isolated so you have to drive for food/drink/entertainment. The Quality Inn is right downtown and there are several restaurants and bars within easy walking distance. There is also a nice restaurant and a quiet bar right in the hotel (except Thursday nights when it gets crowded for Karaoke with Posey-some really talented singers along with a few who couldn't carry a tune in a bucket). The Super 8 on Allegheny Boulevard (Route 8 north of Franklin) has a King's and a Burger King within walking distance but no place nearby to get an adult beverage.

The name of the guy you want to talk to at the Wyattville Country Store is Darryl. I would tell you his last name but you can't pronounce it and I won't even try to spell it. Well, OK, I'll try. Dciezcszciakcz. Pronounced "jackjaw".
