Minnows in Pymie?

I'm heading up to Pymie for the weekend and would like to know where I can buy some minnies?  I don't think the end of the road opens until April. How about near the causway? Thanks in advance!

Yeah, it's Gillettes'.  24hr self serve, it's the best.  They also have a store on the north side up by the Willson launch.  Just don't stiff them, I want them to stick around forever.

I prefer Gateway Bait and Tackle on the Ohio side (probably 1/2 mile past the causeway on the right) .  Russ is a class act that knows a great deal about the lake.  I buy there just to get the skinny on what's going on at the lake.

Is Gillettes the place near the Paradise?   If so I know that area well. haha just kidding. I wasn't sure if they had minnows there. I will definitley check it out and take care of them. 24 hour bait is a great thing!

Yeah, that the one by the strip-joint.  The guy probably makes a killing doing the "on your honor" deal.  I've never been able to work up the nerve to stop there, the thought of what I might catch just by pulling in the parking lot scares me, hahaha.  I digress...  I know everyone that I have talked to loves that it's self serve, and leaves a bit more then they probably should.  Myself, if I think I took 4 bucks worth of bait and I've got a 5 in my wallet I just leave that.  Like I said I don't want him to get screwed too much and close shop.  My thought is that if I can leave a little more then maybe that will make up for that one idiot that, I'm sure, ripped him off.  I don't do it much but when I decide to go at 5:00 in the evening and everyone else is closed, it's nice to know that I can always stop there if I need bait.

I got to add to this.

My buddy and I just tried to go do a little fishing and found Gillette's out of bait.  Is there anywhere left on the north side of the lake that still has 24 hour bait(other then Gillette's)?  I haven't had to worry about bait for I don't know how long because I always went to them.  Tonight I had no idea where any of the other bait stores were even at, since the ones we used back in school are now closed.  I think this is the first time that Gillette's has let me down.

Hey everyone out there who buys bait from Gillettes.  Sorry that we were out of bait.  We were really stocked up but it went very fast.  Really nothing we can do until the bait truck comes. Sorry

We have minnows at Gillettes now.  Sorry if we let anyone down.  Our bait truck came today and we have minnows at both locations now.

I usually hit Gateway on the Ohio Side.  Good selection on tackle, lures, and all the minnows you can shake a bucket at.

Have you ever been inside our tackle shop?  If we don't have something that you want let us know and we will get it.  We also just got a new tank inside the shop that will holds a ton of minnows so we can buy alot and keep them inside.

I don't think the members are implying that Gillette's is lackluster, just voicing their opinions (its the old Chocolate Vs. Vanilla debate).  I myself think Gillette's offers a fantastic service for the anglers heading to Pymy; especially those of us that hit the lake during the offseason and during hours when all the other places are closed.  Kudos to Gillette's for fitting a niche that provides an special service to anglers in the Pymy area.  As an aside - settle down trackergirl, we all understand the process of supply and demand as it pertains to the Ma & Pop tackle shops - you cant carry everything.  Thanks Gillete's, we appreciate it!!!!

we use real minnows down here. not them weak emeralds that die so easy. The minnow of choise down these parts is the fathead minnow and they are not from Lake Erie or any vhs area to my knowledge.

But is their any emeralds or golden available down there. I hear certifieds are over with the guys that were supplying them to local shops, from wisconsin ,got busted mixing regular minnows in with the certifieds so no such thing as certified's until further notice.

I don't think many people are aware of this with the exception of an aquarist and some fishermen , but many pet stores sell " feeder " fish and often they are the Rosy Reds . Still can't believe the number of fishermen that don't know what a Rosy Red is . Anyway , the price is generally close to what bait stores ask and some places [ like Elmer's in Monroeville ] sell for less than bait shops . The only possible down sides  are you have to store your  bait for a day if you're leaving before the pet store is open and you'll have to haul them which shouldn't be a problem as you'll have a bait bucket anyhow . Rosy Reds are generally 1-1 1/4 ' long , so size might be an issue also . It's an alternative , hope it helps .
