Looking for some info on Chautaugua Lake

My fishin' buddy and I want to go on a weekend trip to Chautauqua, and we're looking for some camp grounds to pitch a tent. Nothing too nice, just a place we can sleep.

We want to be either on the water or close enough to be able to keep the boat in the water.

Any body here ever camp up there?

The shore at Chautaqua is just about 100% developed.  I doubt you can camp unless you know someone who owns property.

    Thanks for the replies, guys...

I'm just going to stay at the Camp Chautauqua. I didn't want to stay at such a "gimicky" camp ground, but it doesn't seem I have many more options.

There is a place called Ken's Camp just south of Mayville and Weewanchu Cottages on the same side.  If you do a search of places to stay on Chautauqua, I'm sure you'll find the info you're looking for.  There is also a campground on the main stretch going towards Mayville...I think the road is 394, is I'm not mistaken....Good Luck.

What will you be fishing for?  I've spent a lot of time muskie fishing in Chautauqua and can give you some productive spots to fish to get you started if you'd like....just drop me a PM.  Take care.

I trailered my boat from Erie to Lake Chautauqua about 4 or 5 years ago. We slept aboard our boat (Wife and two youngin's slept in the cuddy, while I slept on the deck, under the storm enclosure). We stayed at Smith Boys marina (transient slip). They have nice showers and restrooms there. Price was reasonable from what I recall.

There is a diner callled Davidson's that has a pretty good haddock fish fry every day.
It is on the main road before the mall if you are coming from the big bridge.

They may also have walleye or perch.

Gotta stop by and get one of Johny's hots. Best dogs in town.
