I havent spent any mornings out yet, been really busy, but I would say most likely they are hatching. Last year the spinner falls were at a time you might not expect. The "7am they fell, you missed it" held no water, again that was last summer!

The tricos on the LJ have been heavy. I am guessing they have been on SC also.

Yellow Creek gets a trico hatch, but it doesnt seem near as heavy as what you will see on the LJ or Spring Creek.

All of us south central guys should get together for the tricos on Spring Creek in the next few weeks.

Lots of Tricos in the air, I left the stream at 10am and the spinners were still in the air and not falling. I'm curious to know what time they fell, myself.

Drake I left right after you but when I got
to camp they were on the water & fish
working well, did catch a few but it was almost over
in that section around camp. Sunday morning
they were in the air by 7:30 & not a lot but when they
came down at 8:00 the fish worked great but it was
over by 9:15, maybe next week will be better

They never did come down in the section we were on.  I stayed until noon and then went up to the Pardise for some abuse.

I have a theory on why they didn't come down and it doesn't have anything to do with a bunch of darksiders waiting for a little dignified action.

Last fall, Duncsmom and I tried to go for a hot air balloon ride.  We didn't get the chance because no one was permitted to fly on the day we tried to go.  The reason was that the mix of humidity and air temperature made the air such that while the flying would have been good, the balloons would not have been able to land.  The air would have held them high enough off the ground that they would never get there.

I have noticed, especially during sulphur spinner falls, that they really don't hit the water until the air temperature reaches or drops below 68 degrees.  If the air is particularly humid, sometimes that doesn't even work.

The area we fished had a pretty good rain Friday night.  If you recall, the air was very thick, hot, and sticky on Saturday morning.  Even though the air temperature was ina good range, the air might have had too much moisture to allow the spinners to get on the water.  When the humidity did burn off, the air temperature got too high and had the same effect.

But this is only a theory.

I don't know what the difference was down by Dave's camp, but only a few degrees of temperature or humidity may have been enough to allow the spinners to drop those last three feet onto the water.

    jon,

I have sprint, all i need to do is open my phone, select the images, say upload and it uploads it to the sprint website.

    http://pictures.sprintpcs.com/publiclogin.do

    I pay $5/month for it.

You can buy cables that hook to your phone and go into the usb drive of the computer, then all you need to do is plug the phone in, the computer will recognise it, then just pull the pictures off of it. I need to buy the cable, paying $5, although not that much is rather rediculas.

Im lucky to upload 3 pictures a month, if that. I really only use it when no one has a good camera, as you can tell the image quality sucks! But, it saves more then a few moments that would be lost.

I fished spring creek yesterday afternoon. Didnt expect to catch much since, after all, it was a sunny warm afternoon, but I did manage to land a few on a para-ant.

didnt have a single hookup personally, saw no fish rising and spooked one with almost every step.

Those fish are laying in inches of water, barely covering their back, fly line shadow spooks them, we need water!

Thats funny! I wish they would put something rediculas into these phones, like 8mp, id buy one just because of situations like that. Had the good picture been taken with a decent camera, I may have had it printed.

    Dan,

I actually have an outline for a flyfishing book.  (My BA is in Journalism and my Master's minor was English.)  The working title is "You Can't Catch a Trout if the Stores are Closed."  It is a tongue-in-cheek book about how to teach someone to flyfish for trout.

I got the idea when teaching my wife.  When I was trying to get across the idea that the best time to fish is during a hatch or spinner fall that is dependant on a triple point of water temperature, air temperature, and ambient light level, I was basically met with a blank stare (okay, okay, that is a normal reaction to me -- HA HA -- you guys are too funny).  I found, however, if I related it to shopping by saying that a hatch is like a giant sidewalk sale, the concept hit home.

I envisoned the book being funny, being useful to someone trying to teach flyfishing concepts to a newbie, and perhaps even teaching experienced anglers something they night not have known.

If I thought I could get it published, I would probably complete it.  That being written, I have a novel/screenplay sitting on my bookshelf that I have done nothing with other than providing my wife some beach reading material, so I am not very inclined to put a whole lot of effort into it.

Maybe I'll just write it for myself and let you guys read it.
