CR500; I finally talked Terry to go out on Lake Erie for walleye this summer after he got better. His wife too. My wife was going to teach her how to get walleye and I was going to teach Terry. He was afraid to go out on the lake because one of his friends drowned a few years ago but he said he would feel safe with me and my wife. I was sure looking forward to that,****!!!!!

I cannot recall ever being so sad about the passing of someone I never met.  This board, the fishing community, heck the WORLD is a lesser place now than it was before.

I hope that, in any personal tribulation, I would comport myself with one tenth the strength and positive attitude that Terry demonstrated.

Kyler,

If you are willing to take a bit of advise...  Never avoid doing something you want to do because you may feel like an outcast.  Everyone is on the outside at some point.

Although robbin' a Mini Market with a gun to see if prison is a fun place to hang out may not be a good idea...

My daughter and I will be there Tuesday, you are welcome to hang with my daughter and I if you feel uncomfortable.  I'm the one not wearing the dress.  The very sweet woman in the dress is my aunt.

I met T through this board like many others. And a great friendship developed from there. I can remember the first time we met face to face. We met up in his hometown and he was determined to show me his beloved "Gem" Spring creek. It was 19 degrees in early March when we arrived at the Gem. We rigged up and jawed for a while, then he coached me on the finer points of midges. We fished for hours until he was so cold, I had to make him sit in my truck to warm up. He got so ****ed at me for taking time out of my fishing he made me move the truck so he could coach from the window while I kept throwing bugs. He kept saying you didn't drive all this way to sit in a truck and watch the stream.

Many other activities stemed from there, from trout on the Gem to Steel in the Dome, to sitting on my cabin porch doing one of his favorite activities, Eating and shooting the Bull. I know Lori could have rung my neck more than once for keeping him out too late.

I also remember the PSA banquet last year, walking around with a celebrity being introduced to everyone he knew. He has introduced me to countless good people, lots of which came from this board. Heck I even met a Post Master in Montana who knew T, when I stopped to send him a post card.

T to me you were a loyal loving friend, an inspiration in life, and one heck of a man. I will greatly miss you and our friendship. I know you'll be watching over everyone with love.

You'll be missed my friend

Terry touched many people, ALL in great ways. I will miss his e-mails and calls. He ALWAYS asked about me and my cancer before anything else. He was an inspiration to me to get better and keep going on. I will never forget him and our talks. I am a better person for just knowing the man. God speed my friend,

God bless you Terry and my deepest condolences to Terry's family.  It's gonna be a different kind of Steelhead season this year without the Crip posting on the boards.  God Speed my friend and keep the light on for some of us who are coming up right behind you.

This is very sad. I don't post around here often, but I constantly read the boards. What was if that took his life? I remember reading about some type of infection or something. Rest in peace Terry.

I never knew the man personally and only through reading his posts on here but one thing always stuck out in my mind about his posts.  It seemed like every single post he referred to anyone he was responding to as a friend.  I wish more people could look at others in that same light -- not immediately referring to them as a "troll" or someone who doesn't know anything about fishing.  If more of us on here had his attitude toward every, and yes I mean EVERY member, this board and our fishery would be a lot better place.

My deepest condolences go out to his family and friends who knew him far better than just his typing on a message board.  God bless...

Chris,

Have you talked with Indsguiz?  He mentioned to me in an email about doing something similar to what is being mentioned here.  I am not sure if there are two groups thinking about the same thing, or if you are working on the same project.  Count me in for a donation.  I would love to help and if possible be there for the dedication.

I see two started concerning a memorial to Terry.
I think they are both good ideas and want to get behind both.

1. One thread  tends to focus on obtaining more handicap accessable fishing waters in memory of Terry.
I think it really carries on his heritage. Good idea but this may take a long time to bring to pass. Lets do it.
     http://forums.fishusa.com/Kicking_around_some_ideas_about_Terry/m_15742/tm.htm

2. The second thread focus is more to doing something now. Get-r-done. A plaque, a brick or a contribution to a great man. Go for it.
    http://forums.fishusa.com/Discussion_on_a_memorial_for_our_friend_Terry_Yocum/m_16053/tm.htm

My 2 cents worth. I'll support both.

I guess I've been sitting back lately and reading all the great things that everyone is saying about Terry, and it's been very hard for me getting through all of it.   He has touched all of us.  I know over the years that I've known him I've had some pretty nasty battles with him over everything i can imagine.  But in the end we always stayed friends.  Family does that.  Terry was family to me.  I guess I can say i was one of the lucky ones who got to fish with Terry quite a bit.  He showed me some of his favorite spots on the "gem" and was there for one of my best days of dry fly fishing I'll ever imagine.  We shared some crazy stories on the streams and made a bunch of our own together.  I've brought friends with me, who never have met Terry, that will never forget their brief time with him as well.  I'm glad that I have a large library of photos of Terry, myself and my brother Dano fishing together, but it won't be the same as getting to ever do it again.   I'll miss him...

First I have read of this and am very saddened. Never met him in person but did talk to him on the computer several times. To me Terry was like the #1 best fisherie internet fisherman role model. No matter who or why someone on here was bustin on you, Terry was always there in a positive way, always.
I'm going to miss him, Jay.

I'm at an absoloute loss......................

Over the past four years, I've lost some of the most monumental people in my life, and have been by their side when they passed, but reading of Terry's passing leaves me with a feeling I can't explain.

I talked to Terry on the phone I think the week before I moved to Pittsburgh. What was only going to be a 15-20 minute conversation ended up being an hour and a half. During that conversation he repeatedly told me that I was his friend for life. It is so eerie, I mean I can literally hear his voice right now. I've had had a few people inspire me here and there, but talking to Terry that night did something further to me.

To the Yocum family; if there was anyone I ever met in my life that was put here to teach us all something, to be an angel, a true saint, it was Terry.

I usually don't have trouble saying things, but that is all I can say for now. I will think of him forever.

Ps.....if there is anything I can do for the family, please contact me at vwscottie@comcast.net
