[Quote:Kings have black mouths, coho have white ones]

That is not completely true at all. Both have black mouths but the Cohos have white gum lines were the Kings do not. Kings have spoted anal fins Cohos do not. Gneraly the Cohos will not get very black in the mouth like a king but some will get very black mouths along the tounge and gill rackers but the upper mouth will be white unlike a king. One othe major differance is the anal fin besides the spot thing is kings =longer and more narrow and a Coho is shorter and deeper. Some will sight the forked tail but not all cohos have a full forked tail as thier are a few that just do not fork for some reason. Though the kings have bone on upper and lower tail and Cohos do not making the kings very easy to tail.

One other thing to note I have on many occations in the past seen Cohos on people stringers that though they were Steehead and had people argue that a male Steelhead was a Coho..I surely miss the Pa Cohos but at least I can make it up to NY each year to get my fix of Kings and Cohos. New York realy has a way better program with there Salmon/Browns/Steelhead then we do. Granted Pa has way many more Steelhead but variety is the spice of life..

What'd that Big King go Bomber?  30? 32?

Nice taxidermy as well, who did that for you?

I am not sure you have truly had a fishing thrill until an angry mid to upper 20s or 30s King smashes a wire diver rod so hard you think it is going to tear the boat apart and then listen to 200 to 300 feet of wire get off the reel in about 15 or 20 seconds as the drag whines under the strain.  Then you get to reel that hawg in and feel every head shake, tail thrust, and run that that big boy makes.  You only have to catch about two of those a day before you have to go in because your arms ache.  Nothing in the world like a BIG KING!!!!
33 if memory serves correct.  We send all our stuff and referrals to Bill Piscor at Lake Erie Taxidermy here in town.  There's a link on my website for him.  Waiting for a hawg as we speak, from last summer.

A big tell-tale sign for cohos is to look for the spots on the upper portion ONLY of the tailfin.  The fella that posted the steelie on his boot has full spotting on the tail.

I've found the spotting on the "upper tail only" rule to be inaccurate.  I know that's what they say, but I've caught coho in NY and PA that had spots on the bottom half as well. There weren't as many, and they are as dark as the spots on the upper half, and there were non in the center of the tail, but there were spots on the bottom half.

This is the tail of a PA coho, the picture is upside down, but you can see light spotting on the bottom of the tail, top of this pic.

It's not all that hard to tell the difference, their body shape is a little different than a steelhead.  The big males are really easy to tell, because you won't see steelhead or kings with the kype on the upper jaw like a coho. Color isn't the best way especially for the odd coloration of the pa coho, which turned olive green similar to kings elsewhere. The fish Kyler posted was definitely a male steelhead.

Here's some coho.

My brother, with the only one I seen in PA last fall.

I'd love to pick up a few Coho now and then in the tribs.  Used to get a few every year down at trout run.  I believe trout run and godfrey were the last two streams to get them.  Haven't seen one in a few years.  Makes for a nice variety.

A guy I work with Norm Lord still holds a record for a coho.... not the heaviest but the longest I guess they have 4 different records for them.

Ol' Norm might hold the record, but it's not the biggest ever caught in Erie. I can assure you...

Did I claim he caught the biggest ever?  I see everywhere I post youve got his curiosity about when Im leaving. Ill be leaving as soon as some doctors clear me to leave. So looks like your stuck with me posting pics of me compromising some fishes slim coats. But Im kinda glad I havent left yet so I havent missed out on alot so far for my son as well as hoping to donate as much of my income as I can to the terry foundation. as well as getting as many tickets I can for CR500s raffle.

Thats good news!!! I was a bit worried you would backout at the last minute. Being that you have a new son on the way, $8 an hour just won't cut it.
As far as your pictures are concerned, I could'nt care less, keep posting them, gives me alittle entertainment for a minute or so.
Again out of curiosity, whats the medical problem "some doctor" needs to clear you of ?

Skip?  Marty?  Bowfin?
