Salmon Run Rumor?

I was told by an old timer and PA Game and fish article that there was supposed to be a coho run in sept, any truth to that rumor?

I think they last stocked them in '02 or '03.  That would mean any matures left that were "coming home" to spawn would have probably been last year.

I did not catch any last year, but have caught them in the past.  Nice fish.  Too bad we still don't have them.

I caught a Salmon in may in the channel by 4 mile. not real big around 20 inches. I don't know if it was coho or king. It was silver mostly. Do any of the other states stock them.

I know I'd like to at least see some coho around.  There is certainly enough bait out there to sustain them, my 'finder has been FULL of it.

Hey guys, if you want to see salmon again, join the EPSFA and help with grass roots good old fashioned lobbying of the Fish & Boat to stock them again.  It wouldn't be hard to restart since NY has quite a brood stock we could start with.

The bottom 3 are spring/summer coho off the Niagara Bar.  Fall fish are much more colorful, especially in the tribs.

What would be nice is to have a pic that shows the distinct features of the Coho's vs the others.  Coho's and King's have more of a V tail, unlike the square Steelie tail.  Coho's only have black dots on the upper portion of their tail.  Steelies and Kings are fully covered.  Kings have black gums, Coho's have white.  We have caught a few in years past, but very rare.  There's a few lost ones out there.  I don't have any Coho pics from the 80's, but here's a dandy King that watches TV.

Scales on Coho's just seem to fall right off too...as soon as they hit the net or anything else you're immediately covered in them.

I myself have always been pushing to see brown trout smolts stocked every year. Maybe 50,000 between elk, walnut, and 20 mile.

Good thing about the next 2 years or so...The brownies that were stocked for opening day got a good chance. When the fish commission dumped the fish in. The water was a bit high and gave fish the chance to scatter. I'm sure at least 500-600 of those pellet heads are now in the lake. Evidence is that I saw a few in North East Marina.

What'd that Big King go Bomber?  30? 32?

Nice taxidermy as well, who did that for you?

I am not sure you have truly had a fishing thrill until an angry mid to upper 20s or 30s King smashes a wire diver rod so hard you think it is going to tear the boat apart and then listen to 200 to 300 feet of wire get off the reel in about 15 or 20 seconds as the drag whines under the strain.  Then you get to reel that hawg in and feel every head shake, tail thrust, and run that that big boy makes.  You only have to catch about two of those a day before you have to go in because your arms ache.  Nothing in the world like a BIG KING!!!!

i mean i looked at the pics that egg put up and i saw some similarity to the pic of the fish i got this year. I always thought i was just catching steelies but maybe 1 or 2 were cohos....could i be right?
