elk conditions for Tuesday 23rd

Just wondering if anyone has any predicitons or info on the conditions on elk.  I am thinking about making a drive up tomorrow to fish Folly's, but am concerned that it may be heavily iced over with this cold snap.  Tommorrow is supposed to be slightly warmer, but it won't help much if there is heavy ice built up from today and tonight.  Any predictions for upper elk conditions tomorrow?  Will it be fishable enough to make it worth a 1.75 hour drive?  Thanks.

I'd wait until it warms up for a few days.  I was there yesterday and by 2 it was getting very tough to fish.  With the cold they're predicting it might be tough until it warms up a little.  Give it a few days.  Them fish are'nt going anywhere.

Unless you have a lot of differant spots to fish, you may be dissapointed. Some areas are still clear but most of the normal big and slow areas are solid!

You may find some open water, but anything that will hold fish will probly be frozen over.

I usually fish the faster water and narrow deep runs.  I am not much of a big slow pool fisherman, but when it gets cold like this, that is where the fish tend to hold.  I may come up with low expectations just to get a line wet.   Thanks for the feedback

Fished Folly's yesterday as it got cold. When we left the hole behind Folly's was solid. Downstream around the turn was icing quickly too.

I don't want to give you any weather or creek predictions, what I do want to tell you is: The streets here in Erie are a mess, the worst driving conditions I have seen this year. We have high winds and more snow predicted. If any of yinz r drivin' up here, B careful and good luck.

Thanks for all of the feedback guys.  I'm still torn.  Wednesday looks like a good slot to shoot for, but I don't know how my wife will feel about me going north the day before christmas.  I guess I'll have to find out if she's full of holiday spirit or grinchyness.

    All the tribs are frozen.
    Even the Brown trout trib.
    BAC was even closed today.
Temps are not to get warmer than freezing till Weds. Tonight is ice building on the flat waters. It should be ice fishing time in a week or so.
Have a safe trip up and back tomorrow

I don't usually discourage against heading up, however, I think you will be disappointed going up tomorrow....If I were you, I'd wait until later in the week....creeks were pretty much locked up yesterday.  Good Luck nonetheless.

With all of this good advice, I decided against heading up today.  But with this warm snap coming in, tomorrow is really tempting.  Any thoughts for Wednesday the 24th?  I'm guessing the warm spell is going to make the water come up fast, and probably get a lot of sheet ice moving, but I want to come up really bad.  I'd come up even for a chance at 2-3 hours of fishable water, but I don't know if that can be expected tomorrow.

Tommy, we are supposed to get a warm spell with rain.  We did get a lot of snow up here and I believe some, if not most of that will melt causing near, if not complete blow out of creeks.  I would check the gauges and see.

Yeah.  I've been watching the gauges and it looks like they are already up, I don't quite understand why, I assumed all of the cold weather would be locking the water up as ice, but the walnut and brand run gauges look to be spiking.

I can deal with cold, I can deal with ice, I can deal with slush, I can deal with bad roads, but blown out streams are no good.  I was hoping the water would come up enough to clear out some ice, but not so much as to make it unfishable, but looking at the gauges now, and knowing the temps are supposed to come up and it is supposed to rain, I think you are probably right and everything will be blown out tomorrow.
