New bow question

I am thinking of buying a new bow at the end of this archery season. But at the same time i am looking at my bow thats 8 years old, that still shoots well and wondering if i should. Looking at the prices and specs of new bows i am wondering if i would be upgrading performance by getting a new one.

For the money i would spend on a new bow, would it be better to upgrade my bow, or buy a new one. My bow right now shoots 270 fps on the chrono.

Also how do you know when its time to put a good working bow on the shelf? Any thoughts would be great!

When it no longer meets your expectations. I thought about buying another bow next year, i still may but doubt it. What dont you like about your bow, are you willing to spend the money to get to those things?

For me, id like to be a little faster, i dont know if i can justify that, my bow shoots fine.

My bow is 14 years old, I kill a deer with it every year and can't justify a new one yet, although the first deer it costs me will be the last.

Better too far back, than too far forward.

    I upgraded bought a new bowtech 101'st..
Almost ready to pull my Mathews back of the shelf....It is much slower than rated..
It is heavy, and is to tall to use in most ground blinds. I've shot solo cam for 10 years and am questioning wether I like a twin cam..difference in draw.....
I didn't really pay close enough attention to what I was doing so I wasted $1000 on a bow I'm not satisfied with...

So if you do decide to upgrade make sure you are really comfortable with your choice as you may have it for many many years to come......

the 2009 Mathews come out November 17th. Best time to get a bow is when the new ones come out cause the DXT and Drenalin will be at big markoff

I bought new arrows to go with it and got a half dozen Easton nano carbons (9.8 gpi)..The bow would only shoot 270..I dropped back in arrow weight to beman ICS Hunters (8.2 gpi) and shot 279-280..The bow is rated at 325..All I have on my string is a peep and a rope loop...

Hunting setups are typically slower than the IBO speed. IBO speed is a 350grain arrow shot with a 70# draw at 30", and nothing added to the string besides a nock.

Most archers, myself included, shoot arrows that are heavier than 350 grains, draw lengths shorter than 30", and draw weights less than 70 pounds. It's pretty rare to see the average bow shooting near IBO speeds.

A lot of guys will try to say their bow is shooting 300fps+....but it's probably not true. For hunting standards 280fps is still pretty fast.

Bings- for reference for ya; my Bow is IBO rated at 315fps and I get around 280 on the chrono from it.  I shoot  30" draw, 70lbs, and gold tip arrows (8.5gpi) w/ 100gr heads.  I have limb-saver string silencers, a peep w/tubing, and a string loop on my string.

To the original poster, yes will most certainly see an increase in performance with a new bow.  Just about any new bow will be a tad lighter, quicker, and quieter than your bow is now.  It will be up to you to decide if a slight increase in perfomance is worth shelling out the cash.  What brand you choose is up to you, go shoot as many as you can and decide what fits you the best.  All of the big name brands out there make quality products.  One bow is not better than the next overall, it will be a matter of personal preference.

From what i am gathering most people really do not fix what isnt broken. On that same note it would be nice to have the latest greatest. I think i am going to go shoot some bows and see if anything really wows me, if there isnt anything that makes me feel it is worth the money i will upgrade old trusty.

Thanks to everyone for there input on how they decide on when its time for a new bow
