thanks 2 dog.. i am doing a research projoect on the sheap head,  an in al lthe resarch i got  they have ben known at sheapheads all there lives,  they have been in the lake for quit sum time an no one call's them fresh water drums any longer, an many many ppl regrete catching them.  the  funny thing about them are they are sortta like salmon, now this does not happen to all sheaphead just about 40% after spawning they die,  we just took one out of north east marina last week. it was a 14 lb sheap head STILL alive just hovvering at the serface, after running sum test on him, found out that they can live to be 20years old, an the one we got had a HUGE gwroth spot under need it,  very ugly an nasty to look at, any ways  foudn out that the sheap head have been eatign the muscles an small gobies at the bottom of the lake,  u dont c or hear much of people catchn lots of sheap heads like they did back in the 1990's because ever since the gobbies arived they have been eating the eggs of every fish out there, well finally  the sheapheads, walleyes an most of the big game fish are eating the gobbies instead of the smelts,  the bass LOVE the gobbie. but thanks for ur help ill keep looking

Some questions have easy answers, some do not.  Sheepheads look like sheep.

ya  i gues ur right,   it amazes me about how everyone hates to catch these fish. i personally like catching them, they put u on the edge thinking they are a big eye or even a steel head.  an then turn up to be a nice old sheaphead. when i do drift fish an i run into a scool of them i wil **** there an go throgh 3 doz of worms liek crazy, my kids live it as well.

Never ceases to amaze me, we will always find them in late summer in a big pod of fish all bunched together.  One day last summer between Conneaut, OH and Ashtabula, OH.  We caught 5 steelies, a mess of walleyes, and about 30 MAG sheephead all in one isolated school of fish.  Never knew what you had on unless it went airborn.

I've got it.  A couple cuzins frum Central Pennsyltuckey were fischin the big pond up here an catched one.  The oldest one said it looked like his girlfrend frum back home.  The yungest one then named it a sheaphead, in honor of his big brudder's gilrfrend frum back home.
