2Cents,

I don't know where you get your numbers, but the Walleye population in lake Erie is much, MUCH higher than 37,000. And who is the WE who is trying to end commercial fishing?

carpetbagger, good reply     whether you believe these reports or not, why get worked up about it?Surely not everyone on here is naive enough to believe everything that is posted here or anywhere else as far as that goes.If Daiawa's reports are true GOOD for them, if they are not true GOOD for them also, because they are still having fun.Fish are meant to be reeled in, whether they have legs or fins.   sam

C.B. and Mr.C. are right. I have never relied on these reports (oops, I'll take that back, about 7 years ago I did and wasted a day - never again) Experience and time put in equal good days. If they are doing what they say good for them. Although I admit, their reports make for some good reading.  I rely on my close friends reports and my own success or lack thereof to decide what, when, and where.  Dave   Oh, and by the way, I'm in Erie every week of the summer and most of the winter even though I live 120 miles away. 2 1/2 hours is nothing to get to the best inland fishery in the U.S.

ORIGINAL: the ski

oh, I forgot to add, Our boat is 26ft and I have had 6-8 people on board and we all drift fished. It is possible.
Stormwarning, that 16 ft'er of yours is made for inland water, not the Greatlakes.

That's funny ski.  Have you ever seen the Storm?  It's been fishing Lake Erie and Ontario long before I owned it and it is by NO MEANS 16 feet.  Ask before you quack.  I can comfortably troll up to 5 guys on board, no problem.  Read my original post too.  It says I do believe that you can drift fish w/ 6 guys in the boat.  Casting is something different, unless you can orchestrate 6 different guys flinging plugs or jigs around, you've got more groove than any orchestra conductor I've ever seen.

I believe Ohio is trying to buy out all commercial fishing permits for Lake Erie.  I don't think Canada will attempt that anytime soon.  As for our salmon, Erie has very, very, very few.  An occassional coho is caught and an even rarer King is.  These are pacific salmon and I really think that they aren't that contaminated anyway.  Their life cycles never exceed 4 yrs.

Don't worry. My fishing reports are so bad that they'll easily offset Team Diawa's sensational reports.

You guys are all a bunch of haters and need to find something other than playing on the computer all day and harrasing anyone who out fish's you. What you guys need to do is venture over here to ohio and see what walleye fishing is really about! Western basin, between the islands is giving up easy limits right now! To the guy who says he is a marine biologists, you are full of it! the 03 and 04 spawn was exellent and anyone who bumbled onto the lake the last 2 yrs on the ohio side have got fish and the next few years will also be great fishing. So just go fish who cares how good you do, if you are not having fun than you should find another hobby! We were out on 6/2/07 and got a 5 man ticket filled in 6 hrs. of trolling and have pics to prove it, spoons and meat!

im sorry guys my eyes are not what they used to be an yes, i do admit im tryin to get into this "texting thing"  sorry for the mix up the walleye population is 3.7 mil, an  the hole thing about the commercial fishing is that in ohio they still commerical fish, wit all the number we got we are findin got that the lake's fish are dropping at a fast rate.  we are seeing more an more voilations of people taking more then the legal limit. per day,  an not to be yelling at the younger generation or anything but we need to chang the habits about they was we fish. the litter is the #1 promblem. during steelhead season we got sooo many complaints about littering, tresspassing.  i know we c people from all aroudn the world come up to fish. but all it takes it one person to change it.  the younger generation just seems to dont care. like ooo us old farts will pick it up. it cant be like this. i want my kids to enjoy fishing an i bring them up the wright way. fishing is ment to relax. another thing i do admit is i get fired up over many post about how all these people catch fish, SOO WHAT! if it would;t be for the officers an for everyoen that spends the time studying the fish, then u would not be catching any fish becasue they would be all fished out!  its not about how many fish u get, or even if u did't get anyhting, its not a wasted day.  if this diwa kid wants to post all this stuff ok im fine wit it. yes it gets us worked up but, an thinking well should  i believe him or not?  it CALLED FISHING! there will be fish stories out there. read them an only u can diceffer if they are real or not.  agian im sorry fellas  for the mis spelled words.  hope to c some of u's out there , i try to get out once a week, but u can usually find me walkn around the marinas soo stop by an let me know what u think about this fishing in erie is compared to other parts of the state or country, love to hear from ya, thanks again

no steel junkie u did;t  i  hit the write key #  an i said im sorry about that, the last few years were great.  but just saying we need to start watching what we do. im not out there trying t osave the world i could care less about the green gas thing  but i do care about fishing. an i think everyoen should too.  i saw the pics of the eyes, very nice.  it would be nice to c more of the white bass or white perch  what ever u want to call them , caught though i see u had a few there,  they are getting out of had.   any ways junkie, i know there is impressive  fishing over on ohio, however i do most of my work around north east.  hope to c sum of ya out here

Hey Steeljunkie,

Just remember a lot of those fish that spawned over there will be here in a month or so.  We don't have the habitat that you guys do in the western basin for spawning.  We have local, resident spawners that are the fish we are catching now.  The best 'eye fishing we get is when the schoolies move in from the western basin, chasing the cooler waters, that's when you fishing lays down for a month or two before they move back west off Vermillion and Huron to stage before moving into the western basin for the winter in anticipation of the spawn.

Talk to us the mid part of July to the middle of August when its fast and furious here.

Not to get picky, but you'd also think that a marine biologist would know that there is a difference between white bass and white perch and that they aren't just called that because someone thought of two different names for the same fish, but they actually are two different fish.

First of all we do not do this everyday or even every weekend for that matter. I just think you are wrong about the walleye population and there will always be the nay sayers in the world. Try not being so gloomy and look at the glass as if it were half full and not half empty. Storm you are right about the movement of the fish but overlooked the fact that I am mobile and we chase walleye and other species, where ever they may be. I will be fishing out of Conny soon and look forward to what I call Double Dipping ( Walleye limit and Perch limit in the same day), so see you guys out there and look forward to fall steelies in Pa.

the walleye population in lake erie is alot more than 3.7million....in fact you arent even close!  Therefore i highly doubt your proclaimed credentials...

Approximately three million walleye are harvested from the western and central Lake Erie basins for commercial and sport usage each year

Try more like 35-45million walleye swimming in Lake Erie....With the largest recorded walleye hatch ever in 2003...i really dont know where you get your information...but please keep any statistical information you may have made up to yourself....

I am interested in what a Marine Biologist knows about Lake Erie, Don't most Marine Biologists work in Marine Environments?  i.e. salt water?  Now if you had claimed to be a fisheries biologist or aquatic ecologist, or even a population ecologist, I would have still called B.S., because I deal with these people everyday and none that have achieved those degrees, can type that poorly if they try.  It is just not possible.

Better too far back, than too far forward.
