That's awesome!!  I'm glad that the PFBC is being more proactive with the Brownie stocking program.  I've heard rumors that we should start seeing better returns by 2010.  God willing!!!!    Great fish, awesome pic. That gets me all fired up!!!!!   -O.C.T.

Nah, I didn't measure it.  Probably between six or seven pounds.  When I ain't keepin them I try and get them back into the water as quick as possible.  If it wouldn't have been a brownie I wouldn't even have taken the time for the pic.

Thank you for the remembrance. Nice fish. I love catching them. I saw one at Walnut last week, but he wouldn't cooperate. I hope to wrangle one or two this season.

    congrats! Smallie

in 20+ years of regular steelin, I've caught exactly 1 Brown.
a dink at that, Might of weighed 2.5 pounds...with my thumb on the scale..

did they stock Browns last year?
(not referring to the trout opener stockies)
or will this spring be the first year for the new program?

Most of the browns that are caught come from the regular spring stockings they do on Elk & 20 Mile, the others are strays from NY. Both streams are stocked with browns for the regular Pa trout season. With the limited numbers that survive the spring onslought and make their way out into the lake & return, I doubt there is little to no natural reproduction of Browns in the Erie tribs, not yet anyway.

My friend said he saw one on a stringer about that size on 20 mile on Sunday morning too.  Still have yet to get one in the tribs...hooked one and lost during my first trip up here when I was still in school.  Can't wait to see more of them.

Anyone eat any yet?  Care to give us a taste report?

I imagine they'd be pretty similar.  Still, they're nothing more than stocked trout, and within a few years they wont even be terribly rare, so I'd have no problem keeping one if I caught one.

They are beautiful fish, but I think brookies have them beat.

Native brrokies have my vote for the most beautiful fish in PA but browns in full spawning colors certainly aren't far behind.

As to the taste, I can't say for sure but have had steelies and browns outta the tribs of LO and couldn't tell the difference.

Lets hope the browns really catch on in Erie.
