Drift Boat Fishing-Walnut or Elk?

I just bought a 16.8 hiside drift boat and was wondering if anyone thinks I could float either Walnut or Elk. I've used it on the Salmon before. I think I could most likely due Elk because it is a little bigger. I'd probably have to stick to a weekend and crowds might be a issue.

I would have to say for the most part there isnt enough flow or depth plus all the obstacles to accomplish that let alone room it would be safe to say wear protective gear as im sure folks will be chucking whatever they can get their hands on at you.......

Lemme know when you will attempt it, it would be a hilarious Utube video

You could anchor it at the stop sign hole... plenty of room and the anglers are very accommodating

    this couldn't be done.
you have people wading all over the streams
    posted property
    too small of a creek

plus you probably wouldn't catch anything

It would be like trying to float the Titanic down the Allegheny River. Can't be done.

The post is obviously a put-on.  That said, I too would like to be present for the effort.

    are you serious?
have you ever fished Elk or Da Nut?
You'd be dragging that boat more than anything

the Grand River  in Ohio would be a practical option in many sections though
It's a navigable river too, so you can legally float thru posted sections.
However, you can not "legally" anchor  or tie off in a posted section.
Ohio laws are different than Pa's when it comes to fishing the rivers deemed navigable.

Even though  our (Ohio) stocked rivers/creeks are deemed navigable, you are NOT allowed to be "in" the creek on posted property.
You can pass thru "on" the water, but as soon as you anchor, tie off or step foot on the creek bed, you're trespassing

Walnut would probably be more fun in higher water.

My reports and advice are for everyone to enjoy, not just the paying customers.

Years ago, a couple of my non-fishing buddies from McKean took a raft down from town to Platz when the water was up.
    They said it was...er..... memorable.

Dennis - I say we do it.  We'll put the date out there for everyone - It seems there is a good bit of interest.  By the sounds of it, everyone would be so busy watching, maybe we would have free rein of the stream...:)

I saw some kayakers on Elk a few years ago. I think that it was in December. They snuck up on me, and I just stood there gaping when they cruised on past. It was pretty far up too.

When you go to do it there will be a couple of us old guys telling you "you shouldn't do that" and then when your pulling it out of the water in pieces we will be saying "told you so".

Sounds like a great idea to me.

Do you think you could put an outboard on it?.. Just for those spots that don't have a lot of current to help keep you going, and so you can get back upstream after you fish down. If you want to catch a lot of fish, i'd keep going up and down, over and over, just so you can cover all the water several times.

You should take a lot of beer along, it will be more fun that way.

Personaly I think during higher winter flows you should be able to do it on Elk creek without to much trouble drift boats unlike normal boats need very little water to float.

SO MANY FISH SO LITTLE TIME.
WHY ARE ALL THE PLACES I HAVE YET 2 FISH SO FAR AWAY?
