Actually, I should have said "is the centerpin technigue used on the tribs" since you are correcting my grammer.

Yes, I know a few guys who use centerpins.  However, they usually break the centerpins out in the winter when fishing pressure is way down beacause those centerpinners like to use as much of the stream as they can.  This is a style of fishing that really intrigues me and I'm sure I'll be getting into someday.

Shutupandfish hit it right on the nose.  I generally wait to start fishing until late november, it can be hard to get a decent drift with no water and a million people.  Generally it works good under all flow levels this time of year.

I fished Elk last March when the water was very high and fast.  I was not using centerpin gear but was rigged up centerpin style with several split shot down the line.  Worked very well letting me get the bait to the fish.  I kept my spinning reel bail open and slowly let out the line while maintaining control of the reel with my right hand.  Just closed the bails and set the hook when I detected a hit.

Sure would be funny to see someone try and pin Manchester hole from the head of the pool while there are 30 guys fishin it.

Sure seemed that way. What part of that guys post made you wonder if he gutted any fish on the bank or thier eggs? Seems to me every post you made on this topic has been of a smartass nature.

    KJH,
I have a question...I'm not meaning to be a "smart****, I keep 3-6 fish a year........for the eggs. I use them for bait and give the fish to this old Russian guy I know who eats them. I don't gut them on the bank, i do it at home. I don't really understand the problem. Is it the "bank gutting" (which none of us should do) or the keeping of fish for eggs that is offending you?

    KJH,
I am also curious...what is "pinner mentality"? I would not say a am a "pinner", but i will fish skein or minnows under a bobber, or throw spoons, spinners, whatever i can get fish to hit on. I have more of a "i wanna catch some fish" mentality. What's the problem with fishin' a bobber? I am still not being a smart as*...I guess i just don't understand the problem with it.

P.S.....I release 99% of all my fish, and the 1% i keep get gutted in the sink.

Who cares what people use ? As long as they don't effect you. Idiots are idiots on the tribs or any waterway for that matter. It doesn't matter if you chunk bait, fly or pin, there are as$holes in every group. What did a "pinner"
do to you for you to hate their mentality ?
The guy was just looking for some advice, what a discussion board is mainly for ? And you jump on him right away. I'm not trying to start a fight here, just trying to figure out why the hater menatlity arose so quickly ?
I spin, fly & pin and don't prefer any method, I just like to fish.

    Slickfish

i guess my "pinner mentality" is a collection of these thoughts
I am not saying all float rodders/ centerpinner have these traits

    - drifts through the whole pool/ feeling entitlement to the whole pool due to pinner gear
    - harvesting large numbers of fish for the single use of eggs to catch more fish
    - thinking the whole reason to fish is a ##s game, the 84 hook ups with 67 landed BS

    KJH,
Well, i can see where those things could and should **** off any "real" fisherman. However...I agree with PART of the above post from jeb, that there are As*holes in every group, baitcasters and fly guys included, that play the numbers game & think they own the hole. Even though I will fish a little skien, i'm not that guy.....I just like to be out there...fish or no fish. Try to not hate on all of us, we don't all share the "pinner" mentality. Thanks for the response.

sounds like you don't have the "mentality"
and i would say every style of fishing has a form of the "mentality"

KJH just wanted to point out that those type of "Pinners" would probably be that wat no matter what type of gear they used. They have a "ME" mentality!

I guess I have the "mentality".  The catching fish mentality.  By the way, thank you for acknowledging the mentality as the one that puts the smackdown on the steel!  After doing much research on centerpinning, I found that it is one of the most natural techniques in prenting an offering...hard to explain, you just have to be there I guess.  All I can say is, as someone stated so perfectly above, ENVY.

I would just like to say that i have been pinning for 8 years now. And i know some of you guys probably have seen me on Elk or the nut with my pin. But i can honeslty say that i have never once when fishing with a bunch of fellows that i have drifted 60 yards down creek in front of someone else. It's called respect for the other person fishing above or bellow you. And as far as the egg part goes i can't remember really the last time i kept one of thoses fish for the eggs. I much rather use browine eggs. And as for the numbers game i fish, i like to fish, Myself this year i have been up least 7 8 times so far and i have been in the hi doubles before the day is over. And i am only talking day break to about 3 pm. It's not hard at all if your using what they like and want. Ask the guys fishing the manchester and legion area i was using something called a fly i tie the watermelon. I swear no bragging i know myself i hooked over 40 fish out of the legion area last monday alone on one fly thats not counting the fish i broke off either only count ones i caught.I  caught  fish upper Elk and  the Manchester. Read the repot page from 11/10/08 a guy was making fun of my 40' ROD LOL And  the fellow and his wife that was at the manchester on Monday 11/10/08 ask him how they liked the watermelon and i even gave him one. I could really careless really what people think. But before you know all the facts about pinning why don't you fish with someone who pins might be quite impressed and end up buying one. I am fishing again this coming Monday the 11/17/08 anyone care to share a drift im me thanks. Be fun i'll even let you try my pin if you like.

Quit ****ing and take a kid fishing !!
