Know any good guides?

for the tribs that is.

I probably could Google it, but I want to know whose good at getting you to some chrome. Originally, I would never use a guide.. But one late conservation in a fly shop kind of got my attention about catching 50-100 some steelies in an outting, needless to say I was interested! No price range, though I don't have much money to spend, lol. Thanks!

Don't need a guide to catch 50-100 steelies in a day, spend some time on the rivers, not neccesiarly with a rod in your hand.Learn the area you are fishing and the fish will bend your rod.But then again spend the $300,they need to make a living too.

Yeah, Jim has been maybe the most insiteful guy I've met on this site. He was ever so kind to give me a full page detailed PM about fishin' in northwestern Pennsylvania, and I've ran into his brother a few times and probably will in the next couple of months up @ this lake.. I'm just looking at my options, these last couple of months I've gone steelhead crazy. Every morning I do 2 things; Check the Erie forums and take a ****. Can't wait til' January!

I'll probably make 4-5 trips in late November to mid December. In January is when I'm going up with some friends & family, get those Bengal loving gum chewing buckeyes hooked on steel duud..

Mytir Bin Isdirtee. He is out of Wesleyville and charges a modest price. Expect to hear a lot about Islam though. Very helpful and threatens to blow up the hole if too many infidels come near while he is guiding you.

If you nead a guide for PA steel you may want to take a long look at your life and try to find where you went wrong.

Ha, maybe I was alittle too vague in explaining.. I do fine up at Erie.. But I figure with relatives showing up around December & January I'd treat acouple of my Ohio cousins to steelhead. I can't explain fishing technique, let alone fly fishing, that well and a guide would be nice. As a side note they're impatient, obviously lol, and I thought a guide would really get them into some steel..

    Jiggy Jim Stillhead
He's not only a friend, but I've fished with him many times

he and Ironhead are two of the best anglers I know.
    Ironhead no longer guides though.

if you could get Don Mathews, he'd a be a good choice too.
However, he has several guides that work with him, so if it wasn't personally Don guiding you, i'd pass

as far as someone mentioning you don't need a guide, that may be true, but a fellow that wants to shorten the learning curve can benefit tremendously with a "good" guide.
I say "good" guide, cause there are a lot of average steelheaders masquerading as guides

I just noticed, "Dec & Jan"??

that's generally about the time the creeks get iced over.

There have been a few winters they were fishable nearly all winter long, but that's not the norm.
Obviously it depends how cold, how soon as to when they get hard.

    flyfishermanpa,
I'd recommend that you talk to Greg Senyo of Steelhead Alley Outfitters.  He's  a class act and he really knows all the tribs; both Ohio and PA.  He offers various packages at competative prices and his personal standards are very high.  Just my opinion.

No guide on this planet is going to get a client hooked up 50-100 times if that client doesn't already possess the necessary skills.  And if they possess the skills, there's no reason to hire a guide.  If that's what you're expecting (50-100 hookups per person), you're going to be very disappointed.

Those kinds of hookup days only come under perfect conditions.  The likelihood of encountering those conditions, after booking a guide well in advance, which you have to do with a good one, is slim.  And the good guides don't work cheap, nor should they, they are the best at their craft. Like anything, you get what you pay for.

I don't think it's too much to ask for, 50-100 fish between 3 guys and a few kids during an 8 hour day. Being paid 300-400 bucks I'd expect to provide that to clients if I was a guide..

I live in Butler and it's almost 100 miles exactly to Erie. A learning curve would be nice because every time I've been up there I've been lucky enough to hook into nice amounts of steel without being elbow to elbow, and pretty much with not much to it. With that being said it would be nice to get some of my relatives into steel as well.

Depending on your relatives' skill level, "you could", no, check that, "will probably" be in for a rude awakening if those are your expectations.  Especially in January.  Heck, the stream could be locked up completely with ice.

That's a risk I'm willing to take , I live on the edge. If it's looking bad around early January, which it very well could, I'll pay the X amount of dollars to cancel. Might as well stay local..

I know many guides want a 6 month notice about scheduling, but the Winter is unpredicable for Erie, as many of you know. If it's looking good I'll give em' a call!
