presque isle shore fishing

Is there alot of room along the shoreline to fish, im looking at heading up next weekend with my girlfriend, mainly just fishing for whatever will hit shiners and bass size lures.  Could anyone give me a decent starting spot just so i dont have to waste alot of gas up there looking for somewhere to fish?  thanks for any advice.

Head of the bay can be your first stop.  There's plenty of area to wade and you'll find a nice drop off so just be careful and bring your polarized glasses so you can see.  As soon as you see water on your right as you enter Presque Isle -- you won't waste any more gas, there's usually a lot of bass in there.

There are many areas along the shore of the bay that hold alot of bass and pike. Its very shallow (1-3 feet deep) for about fifty yards or more in some spots so be prepaired to wade out untill you get to the deeper water. Sart where IUP suggested or down just past the vista boat launch. Other spots I do well are the lagoons, misery and tompsons bay. Also, many of the docks and marinas along the bayfont highway are accessable to shore fisherman, no waders required with lots of fish to be had. Good Luck

Neoprene's are fine - so are hip boots depending on where you are at.  I've got friends who wet wade all the time in shorts and sneakers but that's not really my thing unless it's really really hot outside.  The bay is HUGE and although there are a lot of crowds, you'll have no problem finding areas to fish.  Most spots I fish you mainly wade to but most fish are able to be caught from shore -- I've been finding a lot of bass shallow still so you should be fine.  I'd bring the waders with you or be prepared to get wet just in case -- there are so many opportunities and places to try, I wouldn't limit yourself to just fishing from shore if you have the means to do otherwise.

Some days you might be hot -- honestly, I've got Cabelas Supermag 1600 waterfowl waders that I used a lot during the summer last year.  Yes, I was hot on some days but most times I'd rather be dry than soaked to the bone.  Plus, I can carry my phone and anything else I want to keep dry without worrying about it.
