Edward John front of the boat

Why do they catch more fish at the front of the boat?

  1. Is there a dropoff exactly below the front?
  2. Are the fishermen at the front more knowledgeable?
I have seen this before but never gave it much thought until yesterday.

I think #2 is your answer Just kidding, when I used to go perching a lot, I was amazed at how one end of the boat would catch and the other was slow (small boat). I chocked it up to boat motion...more in the front and less in the back. Dont know if its right but JMO

I was the first one to land a perch and thought that was a good sign-felt the hit on the way down.
Boated 11 more by the end of trip at 8:30PM when we headed back.

7' ML Ugly Stick and 10Lb Power Pro lets me feel every nibble

We were fishing near the mountain in 83 feet of water.
Largest of the day was 13.5"

There was a lady near me using a pocket fisherman-She landed 6 nice perch!

The guy beside me moved toward the front and I got a double.

I stayed at the back because of "NO COMBAT FISHING" Only one minor tangle.

Loved the perch for dinner last night!
Will probably bring my boat up next week.

Marty.  Now you know that hooking a perch at anything over 45mph just takes all the fight out of them. But if you bring the one lady with you; you will be able to fish in peace because everyine else will be "help[ing]" her.

I was on the EJ sunday and witnessed first hand what marty is saying. Those guys were hammering them up front. Big perch too. I still brought home a limit. Everybody was getting fish. A little 7 year old kid caught 24 by himself. Those big waves didn't stop the fish from biting. Thanks for the help Josh.
