ARE THERE SPOTS THAT DON"T GET FISHED ON THE NUT AND ELK?

During full swing, there are literally thousands of fishermen and women in the Erie watershed everyday, not just weekends. My advice is learn as many spots as you can and move around. Or commit to a spot, get there at dawn and hope for the best. Not tryin to be a wise guy but you gotta do what ya can.

NO, even the posted properties, there are guys who have permission to fish there. The answer to "where is there less traffic" changes from day to day. You have to spin your tires and move your feet.  I've seen days where there were tons of guys fishing upstream, and hardly anyone on the lower streams and days that were the exact opposite.

Id recommend deleting this post before you get chewed up and spit out by all the women on here who hate any mention of specific spots aka SPOT BURNING.

My advice as well as what others will say is

take a walk while fishing the busy areas and youll find many spots some people never ever want to fish all because its not next to a parking lot.

Exploring is the greatest you cant get lost of your near a stream they all lead to the lake.

I will second Kyler's advice; a little bit of walking is all it takes sometimes.  As far as specific details, you are on your own there.  I found the spots I fish regularly now through trial and error.  Get yourself a decent map and have at it.

yes, the areas of private property that the public  isn't allowed to fish on

The spots with the least fish get the least pressure.
But honestly, once the fish spread out from lower to upper ends, there's really no place on Elk that doesn't get mucho pressure

Considering it's one of the most famous fisheries around I don't think there are much places that don't get fished. I would walk.. for awhile.

here's a SPOT BURNING piece of advice.... early in the year... lower Nut gets heavy traffic.... water levels rise...fish swim up stream.... with fish spread out more....less high traffic areas, but more ground covered by people....  I love how people think there can be spot burning in a little creek like Walnut.... If you are willing to brave the cold...i have some great spots that i've hardly seen anyone fishing.... if you want.... PM me....but they are only good for probably mid nov. on...

There are plenty of spots on Elk and Walnut that will offer you less crowded water. Granted, you won't be alone most of the time under normal circumstances. But you can definetly find some nice areas toward the middle of the season that will afford you plenty of shoulder room...

These areas during the heart of Erie's winter will allow you to fish all by yourself, though!
Use a map and a tank of gas and you will find them, too!

As for me sharing any of these spots with you.....well, you have a better chance of getting my bank account numbers! lol

    Good luck!

    PA,

Not to be smart, but think about what you asked.

How long do you think spots would remain un-fished, with less traffic once they were identified on a public forum? If, and I do mean IF there were such spots, I think you can understand why no-one would publicize them here.

OK I should have worded this differently! I am not asking for spots to go fish! Just wanted to know if there were such places out there.  I am not looking for a name like Old Uncle Willies Train tressle. Or Pete's **** shack hole where the old barn used to be. :)  Just Wanted to no if there are not crowded places.  Thats ALL ----

Absolutely there are places that are less crowded, and as I said earlier, those places can change from day to day, especially as the season rolls on. There was a time when those places were mostly the upper portions of the creeks, that's not always true anymore.

Another reason why guys get mad about people naming spots is the fact that much of the streams are on privately owned property.  It's not right to announce on the world wide web that there's 500 steelhead in Bob's backyard when all Bob wants to do is be able to sleep beyond 5:30 a.m. without being awakened by the slamming doors of nutty fisherman such as you and I.

    PAFISHERMAN,
I would give a bit of advice in addition to the slams that you have been getting.  Yes there is a LOT of water that isn't fished on The Nut and on ELK.  Most, not all, fishermen tend to leap from  hole to hole and ignore the fast water.  You need to look at all the water when you wander.  As an example; I used to go from hole to hole  but one time, when I was wandering, I happened to look at some water and I thought "that looks like trout water"  it's a shame the steelhead don't go in there.  And then a Flinding Blash of Light.   They have to travel through these waters to get upstream. So I started to fish the small pockets and my success rate jumped dramatically.  Maybe only 1 or two fish in a spot but there were fish everywhere.  A friend and I caught 16 between us one afternoon and we never fished a long deep hole.  We fished behind big rocks, in the worn trenches, in small holes beside cliffs, and in some pretty small water.  trust me you haven't had fun with a steelhead till you hook one in small water; they will jump and fight like mad.
The important thing is to get out and do your own checking.  If I told you the Big black rock just above Sterrettania was good LAST YEAR well that rock could be 1/4 mile downstream this year given the flood waters.  There are some places that don't change much but there are others that can change with each big rain.  So the best advice I can give is fish where there ain't any cause they have to go through "aint any" to get from here to there.

Close.  I think they actually go to the spot right above the logs next to the wall at the project hole.

PA, can't beat the stop sign hole for comic relief....if you don't mind fishing with 100 of your closest friends.. fishing so close you can hear the rod tips hitting each other, people casting over your shoulder, people fishing while you are fighting a fish two feet away, getting your line tangled every other cast...God I can't wait!!!!
