Conservation??

Great article "The Stream Grabbers" in June 2007 Field & Stream Magazine.  Don't want to stir the waters, but article is well-written and shares some provocative information on stream access in many states.

C'mon guys!  Do you realize how much free press you give SRC?   And you even spell things right.  They get enough press on the PA forums--let's not add to it.

Am I to take that to mean you are saying I'm whining?

Go ahead guys, talk the Spring Rigde Club up all you want.  I'm positive Wayne and Donny welcome all the free publicity--positive or negative--if it gets them another $90,000 to buy more access  to pollute more streams with huge pelletheads.

    **** internet.....

All that publicity got the Little J back for us.  Without Alan Bright and publicity, it'd still have piano wire (LOL) stretched acrossed it.

My reports and advice are for everyone to enjoy, not just the paying customers.

No, it was Alan and the Fish Commission filing suit.  The publicity got SRC a full spread in Field and Stream.

Publicilty did get Beaver an article .. so does his false promotion of 10 lb "wild" trout.  You don't think that gets him another 90 K?  So .. we should just sit back and allow all of those articles he gets to be all positive ones?  I don't think so..  if only positive info. was out there, it'd sure make his product easier to sell.

Sure the PFBC and Alan filed suit.. but Alan also promoted the heck out of the fact that fisherman could fish there, legally .. in turn, creating evidence (and much needed momentum) for this case other than historic data.

Why do you think the SRC roster is not on their site anymore?  Why do you think people are afraid to admit their involvement.  Lake Erie water has seven guides guiding for Beaver.  Boy .. they sure stay underground.  Now why would they do that?  There's certainly a reason for it.  The same reason the roster is gone.

You certainly have a point about publicity but all positive is worse yet.  They got plenty of that long before the negative.

My reports and advice are for everyone to enjoy, not just the paying customers.

As I said on a previous post, the publicity that Beaver is attracting sure is n't positive. They are now hiding their roster of snobs and the guides that cater to them.If they're so grand and wonderful they should let the entire fishing public know who they are.

I see your points.  I'm just tired of seeing it plastered all over the place.  It's GOT to be attracting business for him.  The guys that can afford it probably don't share the same points of view we do.  I guess I feel it free publicity while preaching to the choir.

There's the old saying:  "Print what you want about me, just spell my name right!"

Chrome when are you coming down this way again?
Maybe we could get together and catch a few. Maybe share patterns.
Got my wife out searching for the F&S now. Gotta see what the deal is.
I will admit to not knowing much about the DB issue, but I think I need to research it more...

I read the F&S finally. It doesn't even begin to cover what's happening up there. There's a great thread about this guy now on the PA board. Check it out. I learned a few things from it.

hey eagleed!..hey everybody!!!.. enjoyed alot of quality fishing in my catskill backyard so far, may lake trolling superb ..all lakes are high and easy access for launching boats and fish (brown trout) have been cooperating. my biggest catch & release was a 10 lber so far. this was last week we had two great weather days on our 5 day stay at  my site. Pepacton is was and always will be a gorgeous retreat for trophy browns. We ate one out of 10 fish caught. Me and a friend are planning a first fishing camping trip for 3 or 4 days on Oneida lake for walleyes and was wondering if anyone here could share an opinion as to where we should stay or try fishing Oneida for walleyes etc.... should be a wonderful exciting first time experience.  I ordered a canopy without a bug net but i think we can manage roughing it! lol cheers and happy fishing all

yeah salmotrutta, i'm not sure if you know pepacton res. been fishing it 3 decades now few times each season.. it is nestled in mts of catskill and close to 200ft deep near the dam. We trolled the 150+deep points out from huntly hollow and terry clove. These fish look great too and i do believe the trophy trout limit rule is indeed benefiting this well established fishery! hoping someday it will break me that old record me and a buddy caught trolling another catskill res over 15 yrs. ago. That 15 lb brown i netted from the stern for my friend as we flat lined 1/4oz. chrome pheobes  again around this time of yr. and close to the points exiting the deep coves. Cheers and make do with the oil gas prices..the end is near anyway.. be forever humble before the lord and know he is our only savior.. be not anxious for things of this worldly world..including 20lb browns!

I cannot disagree with any of your points.  We are preaching and it's likely many of those guys don't care about water quality or anything along those lines..  but just about getting an 8 lb brown pic. on their wall to show off to their patients.  It's likely we've probably added a member or two but it's likely we've pushed a few away too.

I just hope for honesty (dreaming here).  If you're going to stock pelletheads, don't promote them as wild trout.  The hatchery should make it obvious.  If you're going to promote conversation, actually DO IT.  You know the drill.

Between false advertisement and destroying good water, people are always going to get fired up.

My reports and advice are for everyone to enjoy, not just the paying customers.

        Backin:

Great story on Pepacton, as I use to fish it when I lived in Valley Cottage.
There are some solid browns in that reservoir and some of the others in
New York City Water Supply.  Also, had fun with some big lake trout in
Kensico Reservoir off Route 22 bridge just outside of Valhalla, NY.  Good
hearing from you and keep up the great posts.
