Salmon River Posse Ride share / expense share

I live in the Phila area and I am looking for some people want to share expenses for trips to salmon river New York. I have been fishing all of the rivers in and around Pulaski since the program started in 1970 so I know all of the fishing spots in that area. Actually I fish salmon and steelhead in the Buffalo and Rochester area  also...so I know alot of areas to get fish. I use fly fishing gear and at times cover a lot of area. Have never been skunked. If interested lets talk. Phila, Allentown area or anywhere in between Phila to Pulaski.

I was born in 1970. Two or three years ago I got to Pulaski & within 1/2 hour I caught a nice King.
It moved a good 3 feet to smack my Comet so I figured diamond for the next 4 days.
That was the year I only had one fish eat. It still baffles me.

I may be getting senile but I thought the salmon stocking started more like 63-64. Of course thee was that moritorium on stocking when the mirex - dioxin mess first hit the press.

1873 was the first recorded stocking.

Right you are about that OTH, but not in fishable numbers until the early 60s. How did you know? Were you on the stocking crew in 1873?

I thought the lakes were void of all life in the 70's? Industrial cess pools. or whatever.

Yea back in me younger days... would snag them in the Columbia River and then ride my horse to the lake reeeaaal quick like.!!! Pony Expess wouldn't take perishables....LOL!

Read the history online of the fisheries of the lake not too long ago. Interesting read. I never would have though that they would have done something like that way back then... I'll see if I can find it again if anyones interested.

BTW: Barcley was instrumental from what I remember with the stocking of the Salmon again in the river. Just an observation-don't shoot the messenger!

OTH I went back and read it myself after your post. I knew the rainbows were around for a long time but I was suprised by those early attempts with salmon. Suprising that some of those did,t stray into streams, here or across the border, in enough numbers to establish some kind of foothold. At least enough to have beencaught occassionally  and reported.

One thing I always dreamed of... Being able to see the Lake, heck all of North America, as it was before it was "settled". How much wildlife there was, clean the waters were, runs of fish, flocks of waterfowl,,,,,,,, Dream about it just about everytime I 'm on a river or in the woods hunting and It's all quiet and I'm alone.

    OTH,
One of the interesting aspects of your wishing is that there used to be enormous forest fires "back in the day"  this is how some of the mountain meadows were created.  There was no way to stop a fire except when it burnt itself out or hit water.  So there were actually cases of pollution way back when.  But yep it would have been nice to see water without a septic station on it.
