slingshots
Can anyone tell me of a place in the southwest ,Pa. area that you can buy a bait slingshot? I don't want to order online unless I have to. thanks sam

Gander Mountain had Wrist-Rockets and a large slingshot that launched tennis balls for a dog to retrieve.

The tennis ball one sounds intresting,actualy I was thinking of trying one of those launchers that guys use to throw dog training dummies. As for the bra, I would probably for- get what I was going to do with it if I got it off. thanks sam

accordbw,I was inquiring for a friend, I got mine last year online but didn't want to pay shipping charges as they were about 50% of the item. However with gas prices as they are it would be cheaper to order it than to drive any distance for only 1 item. Since I fish all over the southwest Pa. area I thought that I would pick one up for them if I were in the area. btw I live in Jeannette. thanks for the offer. sam

Pardon my ignorance, but what is a "bait slingshot"? Is it for chumming cats and carp? Or are you freespooling your reel, and then launching your bait and hook instead of casting, for extra distance?

Basicly,they are slingshots that have a bigger distance between the posts than normal slingshots & a wider pouch. They are used to throw out corn & other types of chum,normaly while carp fishing. It will throw corn & etc. farther than you can by hand. sam

Cool, that's what I was envisioning. Seemed kind of risky to sling bait with a hook in it, ya know?

This might be an idea for you I went to Carp Fish-in held by the southwest pa carp anglers group at lake wilhelm a couple years back The carp guys threw the corn out with a 3 ft long wood pole with a big spoon on the end (for lack of a better description) it threw the corn out a good ways and lots of it. They use them to prebait an area fast.

Theres quite a few methods to get the bait out fast. Slings are good for small amounts and bait spoons as mentioned above get it pretty far. Probably the best would be a spod but you need a heavier rod for a larger one. For those you can get a pretty large amount out in a concentrated area fast.

I finally got some tubing online from:resistancetackle.com I gave up looking around here,I tried to get the dog training one from Gander Mt. ,but they were out & said that they couldn't get any from thier other stores either. sam

Forget about the sling shots, gentlmen!
Use a wiffleball bat...Just cut one side of it off, and the top off as well.
They cost about 5 bucks and can launch chum twice as far. Not to mention it's a lot cleaner alternative!
I found this idea using live sardines in florida. You can fling those lil boogers out 30 yards with it.

Mikeg, I tried using a 5' length of pvc 2" pipe,but because of my back,I could not go through the motion of swinging it. that is why I use a sling shot even though you can get more chum out at one time with other methods. Also easier to carry a slingshot. sam

Its a cup that hooks onto your line and you stick particles or a method ball in the cup and you cast. The bait goes any distance you want and the cup goes 15 feet. You can get a lot of bait out in a short time.

The Wacker Blaster (it's from Wacker Bait--- http://www.wackerbaits.com/) is the best baiting gadget I've used. Fast, accurate baiting at long ranges. An American made device for quickly tossing large quantities of chum. Unlike some similar products, this one will easily handle all sorts of bait - particles like corn, boilies, large or small balls of packbait/method mix. Just tie it onto your line, load the cup with chum and cast toward the horizon. It has been carefully designed to quickly release the bait, transfering the energy of the cast into the chum for maximum distance. The Wacker Blaster itself only flies a few yards so there is little time wasted reeling it back in to reload and recast. Rigid cups do not squeeze the bait balls, this gives better energy transfer and quicker release. Absolutely the fasted and easiest way to get a pile of bait into the water.
