Got out yesterday and didn't fair out as well action was slow water temp was 47* to 50*. Going out this afternoon to a smaller lake hoping the water temp. and the action is a little warmer.  Although the perch we did catch were full of milk and ready to spawn.

Probably won't get out till this weekend, but we're lookin' at getting into some good action. The time should be prime right around now.

George: I went back up this morning to the same place i e-mailed you about yesterday and had only about 3 bites in an hour with nothing landed.

Not good when i can go from a 70/80 fish day to none

George: I was fishing the lake where you dropped your rod and i helped you find it.. Last thursday i probably caught 80 crappies and kept 50 from 7 1/2 to 13 inchs. left there at 7:30 in the evening and went back friday and caught nothing. I've went there just about every day since and still haven't found them again.

Years ago I heard that there was alot of crappie in Somerset but the majority was small to med. size.  Do you think that there's too many fish or it doesn't have the right food chain for them to get big?  Mabe it's even structure and depth. It's a very shallow lake.

I was up there twice and all I caught was little stinkers.  But I did hear last Sunday they hammered them.   I was there Sun but on the wrong end of the lake.  I saw the boats there.  Story of my life.  Probably be up there Sat since I don't have all day to fish(cousin's wedding--don't they know you can't get married in fishing season-lol).  Might see you up there.  Walleye season.

I plan on being there at daylight and if walleyes don't co-operate i'll switch gears and anchor for panfish.

A long time ago around memorial day it was nothing to catch 50 in an hour there but 8 inchs was big then. I stopped bothering with them for quite a few years but last year i noticed guys anchored around ashore catching some nice ones so i started targeting them again. I don't think they are spawning yet though.

Seems like the panfish are slow this year spawning  the weather is slower to warmer this year then past years.

They were back in along shore today but i fished the side near the launch in the shallows. i kept 20 or so from 8 1/2 to 12 inchs not as much activity as last week but better than stockie fishing.

I'll agree with you on that one Dave. Not saying that I'm above that or I'll never do it but there's a little diffrence than pulling something out that was thrown  in less than 24hrs. ago.

If they tasted as good to me as panfish do i'd go for them more often. My main gripe with stockie fishing is wading the creeks and slipping all the time. At least for steelies i have a fighting chance not to fall in. Every time i go to laurel hill i either slip around and have back trouble for a couple of weeks or fall in.

I think it's a combination of all of the above but the biggest thing I think it is it is a shallow lake.   Just my 2cts worth.

I was back up there today and i got to the same spot as yesterday about 10:00. for about one hour and fifteen minutes straight i had at least one hit every cast till the twister i was using fell apart. i ended up keeping 50 from 9 to 10 1/2 inchs today and threw at least that many shorter ones back. quess where i'm heading tomorrow?

I think creel from this site told me retirement isn't all its cracked up to be, its even better and now that there's fish biting i agree.

Fished yesterday and hammered the perch all jumbos got 30 between the 2 of us.  Went out today much slower  only got 10 keepers and one real jumbo 14-15 incher i think the cold nights are setting them back.
