Yes to a degree outdoors activities are permitted right now but I see it being shot lived. State parks are now closed to public.
I heard someone got turned away from a state boat launch yesterday.
What's happening right now is the catskills and to a smaller degree in the adks so far is that people are flocking to those areas in extremely large numbers.
People without large yards and rely on close social interaction have no other ideas but to think free public access like hikes and trails are good things because its outdoors.
I do forsee something coming that will severely close all public and state property being closed soon.

I got lots of things to do here and most all my supplies now on hand.
I highly doubt my chicken shipment will happen as the post offices may get shutdown soon too.
Maybe later today we will catch some schoolie stripes. Not reccomend nor legal to eat right now as season is closed here and probably resident fish, not yet the ocean run.
Speaking of which, time to fire up the log splitter

Not sure how all yall state/local parks and such operate but I know some states still use maintenance crews and provide security and lets not forget the dedicated fish & game law enforcement folks.

No doubt these services are no longer available or cut back to a skeleton crew.

While we might follow the safety rules and laws there are many that do not. One screw up requiring help could cause a response from scores of emergency personnel.

Unfortunately, there is good chance some slob(s) will take advantage of the situation and be out there poaching & snagging.

Just my thinking for closing parks and such.

These are the catskills and adks yesterday.
Last picture is my back yard this morning. The deer are obviously not doing social distance.

Sadly, many people have nowhere else to go to release and feel the public lands of outdoors are a way. Unfortunately, those lands and places are getting huge amounts of congregation. It's only a matter of time before our public lands get locked down too.
We have a long road ahead before things take the turn.
My livestock shipments are all on hold right now. Not really a problem yet but if it becomes canceled indefinitely then it can be an issue. I won't pay a higher inflated costs for store bought foods that are to come.
Now I'm heading out with chainsaw to gather some free wood we found yesterday.

Its strange how in those pictures I see no working man trucks. Only cars and the like.

So I got to leave work early so I ran up to the river. I practiced true social distancing with the nearest person 200 plus feet away, most of the time farther. I was unlucky with the hook ups and catch for 3 hours with no takers. I did gather about a dozen and a half of new flies and about 8 ounces of lead shot so all was not lost. It was cold and windy

Despite the lack of hook ups it sounds like it was a great get-away!  I know after a long shift I would love to have that opportunity within driving distance to decompress for a while...

Fisherlady if anyone deserves the right to 'decompress' it's you, and the people like you, who are working 'the front lines'.

Well I went up today after my yearly physical. Uh ts kind of a tradition. I made the walk t ok m.j y mid river spot. Water is up some with the rain and getting a little muddy. There were fish in the usual spots , but not a ton. Crowds were not bad . I was the only one " fishing" so hence the only one "not catching" I managed 2 hooks and one long battle that was a freshish fish. Took me to the get backing twice. Thatt was it . I was soaked to the bone when I left. Took me twice as long to walk in and out, but the heart held up fine. I was hoping for a trout , but saw none

11/3/20. Went up and voted and decided to fish. Got there mid morning pretty busy, but times it right and got there as someone was leaving and got a good spot. (not that it mattered) . Fist cast bam , second cast bam. It was good fishing all around with pretty much everyone getting a few on. Lasted about 2.5 hours and then it sputtered out. Most fish were dark and cookie cutter size. There were plenty of them around for this time of year. Flesh flies, steelhead hammers and green nymphs took the most action. Happy birthday Charlie (know it's around mine) .

Happy birthday to you too, Clint. You gave me a present. I've got the steel itch, bad. Wonderful to get a real report from a real fisherman. I'll be up sometime this month for sure, I'll let you know. Be great to fish with  you sometime this season. Thanks!

Not a good day.
Plan was to head up early. Said what the heck slept in though. Got there at a little before 0500 and knew it was not good. Lots loaded. Walked in and did not make it far maybe 50 yards and I could not breathe. Rested a few minutes 25 feet and no breath. I had to take a Nitro and rest. As I am resting I am looking around place is loaded with people. Looked like Christmas lights. Fish were jumping everywhere too. After 20 min I trudged back to the car feeling better. My issue I think was I put off medication until "normal time" at 630. I took meds in car at 530 and went home a n.v d slept a few hours. Felt ok. Stacked some wood and did ok. I went back up at 300 and people had filtered out, fished for a few hours. Plenty of fish jumping around, but very few hook ups. I managed a few hookups but there were quick. Lesson learned I hope

I relate to the heart issues, Clint.  I waded out in the Hudson when it was pretty high and fast in early May and almost passed out trying to get back to shore.  I might have been a floater.  I had some  severe bouts of supra ventricular tachycardia where my heart hit 200 bpm for hours. Good thing I use to be in shape. It's now OK, as I discovered it was a calcium deficiency (helps regulate blood pressure and electrical activity in the heart) caused by a medication that is healing all the lytic lesions in my bones. I've been stuck between oncology and nephrology  quite a bit in this battle, a few things have fallen between the cracks. I'm glad you made the  good decision to not push it. I do the stupid thing most of the time.
I got an appointment at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston today with the one Dr. on the east coast that is an expert in the rare form of myeloma I have. He is going to design my maintenance program.  So far, so good, my numbers are the best they've been.
Looking forward to a steel trip, just not sure  when yet. I'm ridiculously busy with work coming out my ears. People seem to not care I'm supposedly riddled with cancer.  No rest for the weary.  Once again, thanks for the report, Clint. I'd be happy with a cookie cutter at this point. It's been too long.

Got out after lunch today. The water us finally back to base flow of 335. I was not expecting much with the bump. Found a spot but not any of my usual. Fish were finicky. They were there but you had to put in your casts. 5 hits in 4 hours , all on nymphs of red , brown , green. Should of landed 2 , but list one right at net trying to muscle it myself. Batten down for the winds. Same results for others all around except for 2 who were in the " right place "

I, for the first time caught more fish than I lost flies. Actually 2 up as i found 1 on the ground and dredged one up. Fished 3 hours and did not lose one fly. LOL . Had one on and netted another in the first half hour then nothing for the last 2 hours. Similar luck around. Fished 9 to 12 so not exactly prime time . Crowds were not huge .

So today was just opposite of last time. Snagged every other cast it seems and breaking off the entire leader 3 times. Once had to retie to main line. The people above me were constantly not handling their fish well letting them run to the backing and then chasing them down to right in front of me to fight them. Drag set incredibly loose and letting the fish play them. It always seemed to happen right after a long retie , but on well, at least someone was having luck. No luck today, but not sure surprise as I just wa as not feeling it. Left after a few hours to take a nap

So I forgot to post about my last outing , probably because is was less than memorable. Not crowded got a very good spot, but no luck in 3 hrs. Only saw 2 hooked. I think I had a quick head shake (or tail shake) but that's it. Not alot going on. I actually tried several spots that usually produce but nada. Was a good day though.
