1/11/21

1/22/17 First report of the year for me. I had a few hours so I went to the LFZ. Pressure was manageable. If this was 3 years ago it would have been shoulder to shoulder on a day like this.  The reports have really slowed the crowds.  Fished from 930 to 1245 or so.  I forgot my net and my good fly box, so I was doomed from the start.  I ended up with 2 on and 2 head shakes.  I only saw one fish landed and it was lucky to weigh 2#. Saw only two others have short battles. The folks across from me had no takers, even from the usual hot spots.  I did well considering.  Small green nymphs and pink worms brought the takers today. With the weather warm and my local ice to iffy for me I see another trip up next weekend

    Condolences to family and friends.

Geez, I just read a story on Twitter where some dude was sitting on a rock by the ocean doing selfies when a wave swept him away.

Sounds like a good week for me to stay away from water.

Wow, Clint. I was going to thank you for the report, now I'm thankful you didn't get on the ice. A prayer sent for the families.  What a f'ed up winter, again. Hope  LG freezes, HT.  I'm tempted to head to the Cape for a go at some salter brookies and schoolie stripers. People have been getting some in the creeks. The kettle ponds are still open and they have bows and browns.  If I plan to go, it'll immediately go way below zero.

Going to keep all my reports for the year on one thread.
    2/4/17
Met up with HT and his buddy for a few hours in the LFZ. There was alot of snow to deal with.  Altmar has more than me.
Rich said he fished behind the jail earlier and saw a few caught and we got one at the bridge.
I fished from 2 till a bit after 5 due to the snow removal ad SU game.
I had 2 quick hits on a pink hammer.  Not bad for a few hours, but you had to work.
Saw a guy get snagged and did the unthinkable. Pulled from the middle of the pole and SNAP.   Always pull from your cork.........

Thanks for coming to visit Clint. It's been a struggle for us. Been a year off it really showed.
I said I didn't like the privatization from the jail water taking access away . I am staying here now and think they hit things right on from a business phase . I have seen no less then 300 snowmobiles here in a day and half. All are spending $$ at the restaurant, barn or lodging. They did the place up right to the clientele.
have not found a fisher but their access and staff have treated us well .
The cost was $60 Per and we'll staffed

Went today for a few hours and knew it would not be a good day. Tied a dozen trout killerz and left them on the. Counter. Fishing sucked not a touch all day for the 5 I saw fishing and I mean nothing, no head shakes, no foul hook tail wags, nothing

Twobob has suggested that the lack of fish up river while there are "glowing" reports of fair to good catches in DSR ($) and from Motel owners ($), with also reports of swirlers from 81 down, that the Vitamin deficiency may be persisting, and the fish that get into DSR and get caught a couple of times  don't have the juice to make it through the stairs and up through town, and swirl down river to rest, and then just get into the same cycle again.  Pay to play or no play!

Fenwick has a very good warranty replacement program.  You do need to send rod back to them with note of how it broke.  They will evaluate if defective and either replace rod with a similar quality rod or provide you with a  fair discount an a new replacement.  I recently had an 8 wt pole replaced that had broken tip.  Details of program warranty  are on the Fenwick website or you can speak to Fenwick customer service directly.

Yes I still get out every now and then. It was nice so I snuck out for 3 hours. The only fish I saw was a beat up one I almost stepped on when walking in.  That was it. There was maybe 10 guys fishing the WHOLE zone.  No one got a nibble.
I did have entertainment though.  Two Darwin's finest decided the would not walk to the wire upstream, but climb the cliff 3/4 of the way up to get there.  Needless to say the 2plus foot of snow was no match and the ensuing avalanche and crash into a few trees the feet fist into the river was humorous. Best part is after they got there and shook the snow off the stayed a whole 10 minutes then left, this time by the conventional was.

9/7 /17I m going to continue to keep all my updates on one thread so I can look bank easier.  Yes I filly got to go out today.  I drove around looking and taking it in.  I started in Altmar checked the LFZ.  Yes I know it's closed, but not for a looksee. In the 5 minutes I walked the wall I saw a fish (coho) roll. Altmar had a few folks. The trestle was fullish , and in 10 minutes I saw one fish hooked.   Pineville had a few folks and 2a had 2 cars. Sportsmen had 4 cars.  Pulaski had the most people, but there was adequate room to fish.  I fished the tail of the town pool. Pleasantly there was steady movement of fish most of the afternoon, most were Coho's a silver bullets. I had 2 decent hookups and several smaller ones that were head shakes or tail shakes if you know what I mean.  There were very few fish landed due to the strength of these fish.  Fun day overall until it started to rain and  of course left the jacket in the car so called it a bit early. Because I rarely fish so far low, it was the most ho's I have seen in one place, before they spread out. Fish on it's here.......

Nice Clint! Glad to hear you're making your way downstream. Salmon fishing at its best as long as the crowds aren't around. My son and I hit the water yesterday for the last few hours. I hooked a coho that was all of 20 pounds but he beat me up and got me down, across, back up and under a rock. My son hooked and landed his first king all on his own.

9/11/17.   Fished1.5 hours at the clown pool .  saw a few fished swimming sideways and****first.  There really was not much moving.      Fished 1 hour at trestle did not see much of anything. Did not feel like walking and needed to be home to get stuff buttoned up and back to work.   More ho's seen this year than in a while, most I saw hooked were ho's

Man are there people everywhere. I opted for the down stream of Pineville area.  I found a good spot because there was a tree in the water just up stream and no one wanted it. It was very manageable, except for a few times.  Hookups were numerous bah foul and fair ad I saw no steel on stringers. I beached 2 both males and gave them away. Sorry I left the phone in the car. Now for the stories. Since it was a tough spot I managed to get the tip of my rod tangled in a clustermug on a branch, there was no was it was coming out. I ended up lashing my knife on a long stick and cutting it free , if the DEC would of come by I would of looked like I was spearing them.  Overheard the guys next to me saying their buddy had to go home due to getting 4 tickets in one stop. Excessive lifting, leader too long, keeping snagged fish and fishing without license. He had to go home because he could not afford the fines and his room.  Now for the best.  You ever have that  one guy that just knows everything. Well this guy from Maine was that guy, everyone with a fish on he was in their ear on how to hold the rod, how to use the reel and how to net. He literally paced up and down the run and said ''everybody needs to calm  down and we will get this right''   Gods gift to the river he was.  When he left the guys next to me said ''thank god''. I said '' we can't he just left''.    Laugh track inserted here. Hot flies for me were estaz eggs with pink worm out the back.
