Yellow Creek Parking Lot/Access

I was on Yellow Creek yesterday, and was greeted by some very fresh NO TRESPASSING signs. The lane into the parking lot also had a Private Road sign on it.  Are we still allowed to travel it to the parking lot?   I did come in on the other road that was marked, but given the weather, I wouldn't want to drive it and rut it up. (From the parking lot, there is a sign that indicates you can exit out the lane, it is also a new sign) Tere are new signs along the water adjacent to the parking lot (below it)  I did see PFBC signs on the other side of the stream, but is it still ok to fish there?

I know access is an issue here, I just don't want to be part of the reason it would get even more restrictive.

I did manage my first fish of 2008.....a nice way to start things out!

To my knowledge you are allowed to travel the road to the parking lot. I have parked there a few times each month since it was erected. My guess is the lane going into the parking lot is a right-of-way, at least I hope they were smart enough to gain an easement into the parking area if the lane travels through someone elses ground.

How was the fishing? I managed a dozen or so on a #20 flashback on saturday. The stream was in great shape.

    Thanks for the info......
I hope the right of way thing is true, seems like after all of the press about the new parking lot, it would be a shame if we could not access it.  The other road in to the lot took me around a couple houses, and although it looks like it was just completed, I don't want to drive it this time of year.....too soft (and too far off of the main road)

The fishing was great, the catching OK.......  Actually the fish were doing their part, I just had a hard time with hook sets.  I was fishing some midge patterns, and I set the hook way too fast..... Just the same, it was nice to get out.  I have only fished there a handful of times, and without knowing the area too well, I didn't want to upset a landowner........

Doing ok. Hope you're the same. Dries sound fun. I probably should be out checking for little stone flies on stream with the warm weather. Maybe Sat.. Gotta get a good outing planned. I'm pretty good on the limestoners, but lack a little on the other streams.

I'm lucky enough to live pretty close in proximity to some pretty good water, and I am lucky in the way that my past job and my new one allow me to work as much or as little as I want.

I'm not up to date on the streams down you way. I fished falling springs about a week ago and managed a few. I'd like to fish some of those spring creeks in your part of the state in the near future.

    ....and update 2008/03/03 12:40:05 (permalink)
About a week ago, I fished YC at the flyfishing only section. I was told by a local that was involved in the making of the parking area, that the road leading to it is private property, and the person who owns the road did not at any point give an easement to the parking area. The owner of that road apparently does not want people to use it.

The man who donated his land to be used as a parking area, is now building a road through his property that leads to the parking area, or at least it looks that way.

So, TU was apparently not smart enough to know they couldnt just use someone elses private property to gain access to the parking area. Go figure.....

Yeah, they're not smart enough to stay away from the privatization of the Ruby River either.   It's a shame, some local chapters do really good things.  Yet, there's still gulit by association.
Enough for me to stay away.  Sorta reminds me of something local.

There would be no parking lot for you to access if it weren't for TU, the YCC, and some gracious landowners.  With the limited areas to park along the road, very few would get the chance to fish this stream if it weren't for the parking lot.  Also if it weren't for TU and the YCC (which consists of 3 TU chapters)  Donny Beaver would've locked up the fly area long ago.  So instead of badmouthing TU, offer some support either financially thru a fundraiser or lend a hand at one of many stream clean-ups the chapters do.

Just so you know, I did help with some TU stream cleanups until they wouldnt help with the Little J case, at that point, I did not renew my membership to TU. It is BS that the Beav would have locked up the FFO section without TU. That landowner simply would not lease to him, TU didnt stop him. It is completely legal for the beav to lease/own YC, so Beavers ability to lease or not lease that section of stream did not come down to TU fighting him. Get your facts straight.

It has been fishing well. The olives just started over the past week or 2, and there are plenty of nymphs crawning around the rocks.

I nearly landed a giant brown there a few weeks ago, I wont count it though, I actually didnt hook it, I hooked a line that was hanging out of it's mouth. Someone apparently hooked it before me and lost it. I wouldnt have counted it even if it was a state record. That just wouldn't be fair...

I'll have to come down and fish it soon.  Maybe some Sunday or something.

I had that line hooking problem happen twice on steel, once on lower Elk and once on Conneaut.  A friend had it happen this year.  Must be quite common.

I used to fish the FFO section when I was attending college at Penn State Altoona. Since I moved to nothern VA in 2003 I have not fished it since. I often miss it, fly fishing for smallies in the Potomac River is fun, but there is something about that creek I love. I hope to get back there, perhaps this spring. I used to love some of the great hatches and my biggest trout, a 24.5" brown came from that section in April of 2002. Reading about you all fishing it brings back fond memories. I am glad to hear they are working out more parking there. It was tight 5 years ago and I am sure has gotten no better! Good luck to you all...
