dipsey rod question

Last weekend I bought a pair of trolling outfits that had a pair of almost new Daiwa 47Lc's on Daiwa Eliminator rods.  The rods were model EL786 and they are marked as being for lures from 1/2 to 2 ounces and line from 12 to 20 pounds.  They are also marked as being medium light action.

Are these rods heavy enough to use with large dipseys ?  Any opinions appreciated.

I'm not familiar with that specific rod, but a ML action won't play well with large dipseys. Not to say you can't make do, but its not optimum and you'll likely struggle tripping the diver and retrieving.

The reels are great -- you can always give the rods a go with the dipseys and see how it works for you, but you'll probably find they're on the light side of where you'd prefer to be. Dipseys -- large ones in particular -- need a lot of backbone.

I've run Okuma BD 862 ML's for years as inside dipsey rods with good results and no issues.

you can use them just set the drag loose not cranked down all the way its better with a strong rod to pop the dips but it will do fine
