Husky Jerks

Okay, so I am curious to all the trollers out there, does any one run the Rapala Deep Husky Jerks-12 [dhj-12s]. They seem to be pretty popular with the Ohio guys. Looking at the specs they dive to 8 to 19 ft. I've never used them, but from what I hear they have a different action than the Reef Runner 800's, and also if they are like other Rapalas then they run true right out the package [unlike the Reef Runners].

I think I'm going to have to try them out this year, it seems they might be the ticket for the early season biters. Rapala only offers a limited number of color schemes, but I found some places that sell custom color patterns~similar to the reef runner colors.

Anyone with any feedback on these I'd sure like to hear. Here is a snapshot of the custom color patterns that I found.

Husky's are a great trolling lure! I had had alot of success on the east side with the white glass color one. I dont know the name if it. The local eyes, smallies, and lakers think its pretty yummy. That and white glass shad rap is my got to plug 9 times out of 10 in front of the w's, shades, and 16 mile. I also had really good luck with them in may-june near shore plug bite west of the nut.
However i just busted out the debtit card for some fancy colors. I too will be trolling at the cans on sunday. ( just like the guys on the ohio boards) I cant wait. Lets just hope they dont get too much wind and rain out west.
Anywho, i bought 6 from cabelas pink, purple, blue & green glass colors. I also found a guy who custom paintd them him self. I forget the name of his outfit at the moment. Will post it later. Brent painted me 10 husky similiar to some of the paterns above. He overnighted them for me. I should have them before my drive west tomorrow.
Im sure you could run them in the summer in the ditch with some inlines or snaps.

Im on board with the huskys!

DDHJ12's are my favorite walleye trolling lure.

FishUSA has all stock colors in both sizes.

    Anyone try the Jopinted ones?

Never had much luck with rapalas. Caught a few fish. Mostly on Tail Dancers but nothing like bagleys or Reefs. Might give them a shot sometime.

I've had some luck in the past with a 30+ year old jointed Rapala, gold in color. Just put it on one slow day for giggles and it worked.

I like em in the colder water earlier and late in the year not as much wobble as a Reefy and they pull consistent even at slower speeds.

Caught a ton on bombers as well. Very good plug. Fire Tiger and Red Head were best for us.

The huskys work just like they said this weekend in port clinton out of wild wings. Any pink or purple glass husky did the trick. 25 - 35' back off of inline boards. Boy it was nice to see that first board go and sink back behind the boat!
We boated 4 post spawn hogs that were all about 8 lb. They got iced.....
We put the 3 big females with eggs back. They were between 9-12 lb. Boy those fish are BIG when they are full of eggs.
We jigged up a dozen or so males with some throw backs. That finished out a 3 man ticket. It was a beautiful day on the water.
If you guys think the nut gets busy in peak season, ha! I must have seen 300-400 boats out there jiggin em up. Thats no lie.

The inside of my boat is awful sticky right now...........
