Thanks for the info!  I recently saw Joe, on Fly Fish America TV show, fish the Arkansas River for big brown trout.
    Anybody else see it?

changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes....nothing remains quite the same

I taped it.  IMO it was one of their best shows.  Night fished once in MI on the Ausable.  It was an experience I won't forget.

Didn't see his name on the membership list but so what if he does?

He has a free membership. From what Ive heard, he doesnt fish with them much. But theres also a lot of people I met that had nothing good to say about him. Fact is no matter how you slice it, hes one important figure in fly fishing. He started SCTU so... hes a step above me for a long time to come.

    Coach-

could you tell me more about the class?  Is it basic, or does it involve time on the water?  Personal instruction? group?  any info would be nice.

    HI Mike:
The three day school with Joe Humphreys, he teaches May 4 & 5, the school is schedule for May 4, 5 & 6, 2007.   The cost is $425, includes 9 meals, room 2 nights, 14 flies, our reference manual fly tying and fly fishing, and a T-shirt.  We go until midnight Fri & Sat evenings & end a 7:00pm on Sunday.  If you need the room on Thurs the  3rd it would be an additional $30 per person.

The two day school doesn't have Joe Humphreys involved,  and you don't get a t-shirt.   The school is scheduled for June @ & 3m 2007.  The cost is $285 include room Sat. night, meals, $30 extra if you need the room Fri June  1st.

Both schools are run similarly, we cast and do classroom work each morning,  eat lunch and are on stream at 1:00pm for on stream demo for about 1 & 1/2 hours.  We then break up into one instructor and 4 students and fish until 6:00 pm.  get back to campus and eat dinner.  At 7:00pm until midnight you choose from a number of options, more fishing right on campus delayed harvest project, beginning fly tying, intermediate fly tying, more knots, leader development or any combination of those things.  If interested in the three day school we have just a couple spots left, so please e-mail me at skvarka@penn.com soon and I will hold your spot until I receive the deposit.  My e-mail address is skvarka@penn.com  To register I need your name, age phone # address adn shirt size if you are interested in the three day school,  no t-shirt in the two day school and $100 deposit mailed to Kinzua Fly Fishing School , 44 Parkview Ave.  Bradford, PA  16701  Thanks for you interest!!

    Yours in fly fishing,

Why Bash Joe Humpreys? I met him several times when I went to Penn State and was always eager to answer questions. I once met him on Spring and he even gave me one of his patterns. Who cares if someone is a member to Spring Ridge. If I had $$$$$$$$$$ and time to burn I might even join. Most people who are bitter about it are the ones that I can't afford it. I too fall into that group. If I could fish around people who wouldn't lurk, litter or generally give landowners a hard time I would too. If people would be more respectful of land owners we wouldn't even have a problem with access. Take for instance the Manchester hole on Walnut. You used to be able to fish both sides no problem. When I started in the late 80's you may see 4-10 guys at peak times. No problems. However as popularity rose and more and more people took to the streams. Problems such as litter and people deficating in the guys back yard caused him to post. The public has created the access problem in general.

Steve.  I appreciate it.  I's not going to work out though.  I am very interested and it sounds like a great opportunity, but my family is not going to be able to pull it off this year.  Keep it going though.  It's a nice deal with some great instruction.  Thanks for all of your help though.
