Isn't it alittle early for rut?

Well i was just wondering if anyone else had seen mature bucks chasing does all over the place already. Saw 4 button bucks and 3 does the other night running all over the place. My buddy just killed a 8 point on a doe and my dad's buddies at his works are killing bucks chasing. It just seems with the warmer weather that they would be rutting late.. well into november i was assuming.. but is next week the prime time to hunt? Anyone else seeing any bucks chasing? I live in SW Pa, Westmoreland County

its not really warm weather at all 50's is perfect for deer movement in general. i remember one year it was 70 in late oct, november and no one was thinking it was the "rut" but it was. warm weather doesnt make them not rut. the rut phase starts heating up now into december i've seen them chase then...just becuase you arent seeing them chase.......(i havent either)......doesnt mean they arent. some are. some aren't. mature bucks i believe know teh real time to chase hard to be honest, i think they are the ones making scrapes now, finding the area where does are, more so then the young bucks. but i think the young bucks run around more and not know what to really do then a mature deer, i think they wait alittle longer to be really chasing.

I think that end of next week in my area might be prime for the mature bucks to start moving around.

This full moon is going to get the bucks riled up a bit, I believe.  The does are no where close to estrous yet so there could be some increased early chasing this week??

I saw scrapes early as the first week in september they don't mean $hit just a little buck with a hard on.I once grunted in a scrub head 7 point after i shot my eight point 3 years ago. Both bucks we're grunted in with in 5 minutes apart.I shot the 8 then while he was dying i messed with the 7.I counted he made 27 scrapes with in 50 yards. So if your just finding pie pan scrapes don't get over excited. You gotta find a giant one in a concealed area with the tree just rubbed to death.I only found one like this before in all my years hunting.I didn't know much about hunting then so we never hunted it.Also i can take you to a spot with a rub on ever tree and a scrap under every branch an i'll gurantee you will never see a deer there in daylight hours.I myself don't like hunting where ther is alot of scrapes and rubs.I think the bucks are invaded other bucks territories at night to do this.

I had a shooter come in last night, he was trailing the doe that was 20 yards away, he came running after her and she took off with the buck in tow before i got a shot at him

Seen the 2 twin big 8's last evening chasing the heck out of a nice size doe. went on for over a hour but never got a shot. Although at one time they came right under my stand running full speed after her, was fun to watch. Tried a couple grunts and bleats after they started to head off,but not interested BE SAFE AND GOOD LUCK Dave

Without giving a very long answer, cold weather, shorter amounts of daylight, get the rut going, but there are four phases of the rut,the true show starts later where the doe's will let a buck breed her{esturus)a doe that is ready is only in heat for 24-36 hours but not all doe's come in heat at the same time, and a buck will shag her till he get the job done and then look for more does to breed,(more than one buck may breed her)if you see bucks chasing does now(this phase is the pre rut)un bred does will come into estrus 28 days later if un bred, and some younger does will come in heat the second rut.I has seen more of the full blown rut just after are bow season goes out,I'm usally chasing fall turkeys at that time and have seen some wild buck activity. One other note several bucks will use the same scape, they communicate threw scent and there a lot of different deer coming to the scapes, bucks and does.

BT your right about it being pre-rut.Why to early for estrus. The bucks are in pre-rut hard In all three of the properties I hunt. Now if I could get one to stop and give me a shot that would be nice LOL

Though the peek of the breeding in this area typically occurs in the second week of November, every spring when I am doing embryo checks I find that about 10-20 % of the adult does had been bred in late October.

Some adult does are already coming into estrus now. The rut is getting underway, as evidenced by the number of bucks being killed on the highways the past few days.

Agreed. We counted 13 dead bucks on 79 from the WV line to exit 100 on our way home from a wva hunt sunday.

Better too far back, than too far forward.

I been seeing them just no quality. Saw a 4 point this morning chasing after a doe in the pouring down rain. We had a tornado watch and some bad storms in the evening which made me get down outta the tree early.. I been seeing deer dead all over the place on 70 and 79. I think first week in November should be the ticket although alot are chasing now i'm not sure if the big boys are running hard. On the full moon the other night i saw 16 deer all does and button bucks. Good Luck

Last night was just a little nutz with that wind! Hunted in a deep valley that has always been great for when there is strong winds.but not last night, justed hunted to ground.seen a couple doe but nothing to shoot at.Eman89so If the places I hunt were bigger I would be more than happy to have you come down and try your luck. My best two hunting spots are no more than 20-25 acres and two of us hunt both. So it's kinda tight. the farm I hunt is just crazy with UNWANTED HUNTERS/trespassers

I was going hunting until my water line in my car decide to leak causing my engine to start smoking so now i'm stuck at the house. I'm gonna hunt behind my house but thats all the further i can get to by walking. Little warm out today but hopefully by the evening it will cool off nicely. I seen a rub behind my house that is new the size of a telephone pole that wasn't there last week so hopefully he is still in the area before he goes off chasing a doe. My luck he is long gone.. I've seen only young bucks that are very eager chasing the doe. I think another week or two it should start heating up with the bi boys.
