As I posted before:

http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/21663.html

Originally constructed to revive and enhance the fishery of the Great Lakes, this facility provides most of the fish for the now multi-million dollar Lake Ontario salmonid fishery.

Funny no mention of alewive control....

an interesting side note -  I'd venture to bet that the renowned and honorable Sen. Barclay used his great power and influence toward the decision to build the hatchery at the top of the SR. After all, he was looking out for his constituents. Who would have "thunk" that he'd be charging $45 a head  years later for the common man to catch fish stocked with fishing license and taxpayer money. (I intentionally added this remark to drive a size 1/0 hook deep into your azz, the same practice that many of his guests perform on NY State Resources).

Still waiting for your link of any NY SOURCE stating that the hatchery was built to control the alewive population.

like the fact that the SR is a man-made fishery built solely for economic reasons,

As posted before before. Does it say anything about the hatchery? It clearly (and wrongly) states that the SR fishery was built SOLELY for ECONOMIC reasons.
The first planting (in the SR) of Pacific salmon was in the late 60s. That was the creation of the fishery both in the lake and in the Salmon River. The hatchery was built in the late 70s. Since the fish came before the hatchery how is the hatchery relevent to the creation of the fishery?
I am still waiting for you to post anything stating that the coho plants of the late 60s were for any reason other than controling the alwive population.

Sorry Boy Wonder - I never made a point regarding the coho stockings in the lake during the 60's.

As I have stated over & over & over again, my comment was related strictly to the Salmon River. Without the hatchery, the motherload of salmon would not be returning up the Salmon River and providing economic benefit to the myriad of fishing lodges, river guides and other businesses that cater to the annual brigade of Salmon River fishermen.

What do you think REVIVE and ENHANCE means?

Tell you what, contact the DEC and have them correct their erroneous statement on their website.

I'm done arguing with you.

cohos in the 60's were the first successful implement of anadromous fish species.

Tuna, great pictures!!  Thanks for sharing.

As for the rest of this thread, well... ... I'll never get those 10 minutes back.  I did get a kick out of Drake trying to rewrite his initial statement though, funny stuff.

Those cohos you wish to dismiss where stocked and returned to spawn in the SALMON RIVERjust as the fish from the hatchery do today. They were snagged and fished to just as the ones from the HATCHERYare today. There is no difference. They were the start of the fishery SALMON RIVERand lake. They were put into the SALMON RIVERTo imprint and return to the wier for egg collection.
Your claim that the SR fishery was CREATED SOLELYfor ECONOMICreasons is false.
Sorry but you don't get to choose the point when the SALMON RIVER[/b fishery was CREATED. History beat you to it.

Gee this bold print thingie is way cool!

Get it. Started as an alwive control project and turned into a put and take cash register fishery.

Again I ask you gots any credible source citing the creation of the fishery was solely for economic reasons.

Did you forget to post that video you CLAIM to have of a DSR employee herding fish and helping snaggers?

i am led to disagree with this statement. i read once that there is an estimated 10 million salmon hatched naturally in the river each year. no fact based data on how many return though yet. i believe a ten year study is underway. but i know first hand there is a lot of natural repro that goes on with all species. i've seen it first hand. i have a friend who has a creek running through his prop. i've seen salmon and steel that are wild pair up and spawn in this trickle of a creek. you wuoldn't believe the color on the cohos that run this little creek. this past late march i encountered around 10 beds in a 100 yard stretch that were already filled with fertilized eggs so perfectly. i know a boy who had claimed that in the late spring early summer he catches little rainbows in this creek... put it all together and one can conclude that this is a wild reproducing drainage creek with no name... now, take the river in to consideration... i believe this river in reality doesn't need this hatchery.... but remember, this is an opinion... nothing completely fact based.

This is good entertainment. The 13 is hot sauce.
And yes, I am wishing I could relive Monday at least once a week for ever.

An olden days poster went by the name Lucky13.
It came from a hot sauce he makes with 13 different peppers in it. Tasty stuff.

Tuna and Slayer
There was a batch made this year (you know there is always more demand than product0 and I will ask if there is any reserved. I got an Email telling me there is a jar with my name on it but we never could get it together for a pick up.
I'll get in touch and see whats up.
Funny thing is we live only a couple miles apart and see each other once or twice a year or less.
This growing up thing suxs.
I hope to put together a late oct or early nov trip with him as we did every year in the 80s and 90s.
Its a shame he has so little time nowaday.
Go to school to earn more money to be able to fish more only to get a huge workload that doesn't give much time for fishing.
Thanks for reminding me that I have to contact him.

Or get old like me and retire and say the heck with it,but I'm still 4.5 hrs away but making three trips this fall to fish my "secret" spot.
When the RE market returns I'll be selling my house and moving....to Ohio to be near ny only daughter and family.I'll be 8 hrs from the SR but will still return in Oct to get my fix.The plus to this move is I'll be very close to some excellent Steelhead fishing in Ohio and Pa.
Get ready fish ,I'll be there at noon tomorrow!
