Yes, another wader post

Yes. Another question. My son suffers from a recesive gene problem. Somewhere in our ancestors past there was an unfortunate cross between man and Sasquatch. So at 17 years old he is 6'1" with a size 13 shoe.

I am considering the Chota Rocky River wading shoes from fishusa. I live here so getting sized up should be no problem.  Just want to know if anyone has a pair, how they do with them. I know that this is the low priced chotas--he is still growing.

Thanks

Great boots but if he is still growing (like skeeter; he has gone thru 4 sizes in 3 years) I would recommend a cheaper pair of decent boots and just screw some hex head 3/8" screws in them. there's been a few posts on this process but if you want more info just pm. Easy enough to do and they work well. I think fishUSA has some reddingtons that are cheaper. I may be wrong on the brand.

Thanks. I did the 3/8 screws on my pair of wading shoes--works great. I'll look again. The only Redingtons I saw were available only in size 8. But that may have just been a sale I saw.

Try Wright McGills...That's what I have and I wear a size 13 too.

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

o do not like the felt and stud combo.  in muddy conditions, which happens often on the tribs the felt is slippery when walking the banks.  the studs are not long enough to penetrate into more solid soil, so you will slip often, espectially when you need it most, like climbing up a steep bank.  i prefer rubber sole woth studs, as long as i can find.  my next purchace will be to buy a hunting boot with the vibram lug soles and screw in motorcycle ice studs.  i too, hav large, wide feet, 13, EE, and have a very limited selection of wading boot.  however, by using hunting pac boots i think i can find a better fitting boot that i can make into studded wading boot.

My first pair of breathables were Chotas...They leaked the second time I went fishing in them. The only and final experience I'll have with them.

I have the felt/stud boot on my Orvis Tailwaters and they work great until the first heavy snowfall....when you walk in snow, they pack up on the felt and feel like you're wearing Frankenstein boots!! The ultimate are rubber soled/studded combo...also have a pair of Korkers in this and they are the way to go IMO.

Oh and I love my Orvis Tailwaters....go on the Orvis site, they have specials all the time....5 layer breathables/convertables were $249...lifetime warranty and they've been great for a couple seasons now.

Hey beagler we must be related, Im 16, 6' even and wear a size 15-16 depending on brand. I bought a pair of Cabelas ultralight wading boots and a pair of their neoprenes, total cost was about 125$ i believe. Then for studs I went with the hex head idea.

fished the tribs in my chota stud/felt and they are awesome until you walk in the snow , then when u get in the water it melts the snow/ice build up off so i wouldn't take a pair of anything else to the tribs in my opinion

Wow, If you keep growing you won't need waders. Just maybe a pair of waterproof shoes.

I have the cabelas boots to and did the hex head screws, you might notice that's my picture on the other wader shoe posting. Not sure that its original with me it was pretty easy to come up with, but I am glad its catching on.

Thanks every one for all the input. I think I may go with the chotas. I have used the Bass Pro and pro line before. I currently have the cabelas.  But I have a pretty steady line of young men who like fishing growing up in our church that if Dan does out grow them there is always someone to pass them down to.

    thanks again

On my felt soles I add the yak trax slip on coil springs ice grippers. They work pretty well, but I want to try the hex head idea this year.

Thanks guys. I had non-studded felt the past 2 years so I'm all too familiar with snow build up. I'm just not a big fan of the rubber soles while I'm actually in the water (the only place the soles on a wading boot matter, to me), so until great advancements are made in that department or felt gets ban't guru-style, I'll stick to felt like the snow.

You can't go wrong with chota boots. I'm on my 6th pair of STL plus's. I'll get a 7th next year.
