To interject some truth into the argument. Yep the mile creeks were without any fish till way late in the year last year, and after they did get fish they didn't get the numbers that they had in other years. But they did get more fishermen who were looking for the easy catch ( which doesn't exist on the east side). There always is and always will be more fish on the west side due to the size of the creeks and the accessability of them. That's not debatable; just a fact. We need to get good cooling rains and weather coming from the SE ( a nice hurricane in the Virginia area pushing weather over the alleghanies). Right now some of the East side streams have very limited flow and some won't even make it to the lake some days when there is no rain for a week or two. SO again; wait for weather from the east, the lake to turn over, and the picture of the doofus with his hand in a fishes' gills on the wall and then you can bet there will be steel just offshore.
And also Don't feel that you can only fish the mouths , , there's some good fishing on inbound fish up to 1/4 mile from the mouths, especially in the current flow along the lakes from the stream mouths. The inbound fish pick up this water trail from waayyyy off and follow it in. If I had access to the tribs on a daily basis, right now I'd be looking for some place NE of Walnut where there is slightly deeper water just offshore and I'd be throwing small spoons (cleos).

C'mon Jack.

You know those fish all meet in the 2nd trench, and follow a single file line straight into the creek.

Absolutely! We'd hate to see ANY amount of skill, or effort required to catch them

My prediction is that this year won't be productive the week before Labor Day like it was last year.  If I remember correctly the lake is a few degrees warmer this summer.  Like some other posters have replied, you can get 90% of your info from internet weather reports.  There will no doubt be some fish near shore early Sept.  In my experience, the north easterly weather is great, but wait a day after for the lake to calm down.  If the water is still warm >70 and the lake is muddy, I would save the gas.  Watch for a string of cool nights to bring the outflow temps down.  That will be your best bet.  Slight south breeze to dead calm have been the most productive for me once the near shore lake temp approaches 72.

200 dudes just got into their cars and header for 79 with some spoons, rooster tails and salted minnies from****s sporting goods, waders moldy from not drying them out last year, repeating over and over "steelhead are near, steelhead are near...."

There are steelhead near-shore right now.  Not joking.

I was in Erie yesterday. Charter got cancelled so we decided to scout around. Went to Trout Run, saw the parking improvements. Saw a steelie jump about 10 yards out! Better get those porta-Johns down there.

I have caught steel in the legion hole as early as the 3rd week in August 80+ degrees ... Was walking the creek to see what summer heavy rains have done and walked up on a couple pods. Ran home grabbed my pole and had a blast.. These were not leftovers the were silver as can be and thick. But like others have said it's deferent every year.
