ORIGINAL: Pork

yep.
I'll drop him a line & see if we can't get...
'the rest of the story'.

Well, here's the rest of the story.........

From what I remember of that last corn'eye that I got at Wilhelm, which was quite a few years ago------ I had corn on the hook as underbait and was using some bright yellow tater packbait and was still fishing, so the bait was just sitting there (not reelin' in) when I caught the walleye.  It was a 22 incher and nearly 4 lbs.  I don't keep fish very often, but that was the last fish I kept for the table.  Not your usual walleye bait, but not that surprising as I've caught a variety of fish (and other critters) over the years on corn and other carp baits.
I used to use a piece of corn along with livebait for trout when I used to trout fish.  I also remember using corn for perch back when I was a kid.  Plus a variety of other fish caught over the years on corn including panfish, suckers, plenty of catfish, and even turtles.
As for other strange catches-----I've caught a couple of ducks-----the latest coming last year on bread, of course.

But my strangest catch below came yet again on corn (actually flavored pips) and it didn't have gills.  This thing came from Wilhelm as well, nightfishing there in Jan. quite a few years back on a warm night(for Jan.) when there wasn't ice on the lake.  It put up a pretty good fight both in the water and on land.  If ya look closely, ya can see the hook in it's bottom lip.

this mite not be that strange of a catch but it wasone of the best fights i ever had
while drifteing minny's one evening at buffalo creek i hooked into this thing
now the water was high so i was on the upper side of the tracks on the wall wich is usally 8-10 ft obove water level had trout 5ft 6in rod w/ 4lb test
the bite was lite but steady i had already caught 4 or more when i felt a lite tic then another so i set the hook the rod instatly bent an took drag as i held on i started to gain line then it took off agian a little slower this time this happened several so i gentley tighted the drag alittle an slowly gained ground i saw my split shot so i knew it was close so i backed up to get it out of the current reeled in a little more so i could see my prize #$#@@#@ a damd stump with a bicycle tube on it when it turned just rite the current caught it and off it would go some catch

I caught a Pelican in Florida. However my son caught the straingest creature that I thought could be caught.
It was a Hawk up in Canada. He had just reeled his lure in and it was dangling below his rod. That Hawk came
like a streak and grabed his lure. Well it ended up in the lake soaked and we got it in the boat. I tried to get the hook out
but it would hiss and come at me. Finally we through a towel over it and got the hook out. It stood in the bowel of the boat
for quit a while drying off and recouperating then flew off. Then all four of us in the boat realized we hadn't taken a picture.

I caught a 40 pound snapping turtle at glenmere lake in new york. i managed to get him to shore but was at a loss for what to do next. That smart turtle used its claws to break the line and spared a quick snap at me before scuttling back to the water. Also caught a swan once on lake memphremagog in vermont.

Caught a baby gator in Florida one time fishing a weedless frog back in some weeds. Was released. My friend caught a cotton mouth the next day. Wasn't released. He always carries an old .38 loaded with shot. Shot the snake and lost the lure and abouut 4 feet of line.

I caught this one on an egg sack a couple of years ago and released it. It sure had a hard time closing its mouth, but seemed to be in good shape and must have fed well while in the lake.
