be careful about how good of a time you show her on the beach. You dont want to get arrested (especially if it involves fish)

"A Homewood man led police on an hourlong car chase that ended with a crash injuring three officers.

"The car was driving itself," Wright said. "The car has a GPS. It's a Lincoln Navigator. They drive themselves. I wasn't running nowhere."

Medium weight rod, 8 lb test will do with some crappie rigs and a 2 oz. pyramid weight.  You can catch small stuff all day long this way using shrimp or bloodworms.  Blues, Croaker, Spots, etc.  Throw 'em back or cut 'em up for fresh bait.  Put them on a heavy surf rod with anything from 12-20# line, 3 or 4 oz. pyramid weight and a bass or bluefish rig.

I like a big bass or blue rig, 7/0 hook and huge chunk of fresh cut fish.

I just got back from VA Beach yesterday.  I was in these all week.  LOTS of pullage from these bad boys.  The Blues are running too right now.

Avoid frozen bait at all costs.  It's mushy and falls of the hook real fast in the surf.  Always go fresh/live whenever possible.

I like a blue rig with wire leader better than bass rigs.  A decent sized blue will cut right through a 50# mono leader like butter.  Forget a shark on those.  Also, the type with a big float on it really helps keep the bait up off the bottom so the crabs won't steal it all.

All my sharks of this size were on the heads of croaker/spot.  Cut them in half and hook em up, guts and all.  The small tail section provides 2 small filets for smaller rigs that will get you 2-3 lb. blues, spanish, skates and smaller shark.

Take yourself a few 4' pieces of 2" PVC for rod holders.  Cut the bottom at an angle to help get it into the sand.

if you dont have surf set up, you can rent one for about 10 bucks for 24 hrs. if you find that its too crowded around o.c. you can drive up the coast to delaware st. parks a lot more room there and not that far of a drive.

It should go without saying, but take beer.

If you catch as many fish as I did when I went surf fishing, you'll need it.

My family was in OC a couple weeks ago. Didn't catch anything surf fishing. My son and I each caught 7 flounder on a flounder boat. 17-18 1/2 long, they needed to be 19 to keep. Had a great time fishing for them. The boat caught around 92 flounder in the morning.

    Have Fun.

A few years back, we went to Virginia and had a chance to surf fish...
We went to Wal-Mart and bought a couple of the Shakespear "Tiger" spinning rod/reel combos, they were about 20 bucks, already spooled with some pretty decent line and were actually a hefty rod!
They worked fine for surf casting and held up to the salt water just fine...and guess what...they held up so good that we still have them and use them as our "back-up" rigs on the Ally River for big cats! - We did recently respool them with braid...but I would buy them again if I need a quick, inexpensive surf rig while on vacation!

On the internet, EVERYONE is entitled to their opinion!

I've noticed that the bait fish such as croaker, spot, etc. and other small stuff (that you would use bloodworms for) tends to be most active in the morning and usually shut off around 6 PM or so.  Catch your live bait early...at least that's from my experience.

Went to the inlet lastnight and all I have to say is holy blues, nothing over 13 inches but it was a bite every cast, it was amazing, I bet I caught 30 blues in 3 hours after dark, had my 9 foot noodle rod down there and it was fun. Tossed around a little cleo all night and all the people around me were getting angry cause they were usin everything possible trying to catch these things including live eels. Gonna try to get back down there either tonight or tomorrow night
