rod holder question
my buddy and i were talking recently and the subject of rod holders came up. curious, but is there a rod holder made these days that will not beat up a cork-handled rod?

Hi rap.....All depends on what you're doing. If you're running dipsys, its pretty much inevitable that the cork will get marks from all the pressure. It also depends on the grip design as apposed to the design of the holders. I have just learned to live with the "pressure marks" my rod handles get from extensive trolling and dragging stuff that puts a lot of pressure on those rods. I have noticed that the foam handled rods have less memory than the cork and will bounce back into shape after time. However, I don't think the "pressure marks" deplete the performance of the rods one bit, only thing thats damaged a bit is cosmetics. Good Luck.
Typically though, the Down East Rod Holders clamp around the reel seat and don't usually touch the grips at all....However, I don't like them because of the lack of adjustability they have....for a one position rod holder, they work well.
