I don't know how large your reels are, but I put between 100-200' of heavy cheap backer mono(Ande or Trilene Big game), then 400' of Powerpro 30#, then a good snap swivel on my dipsey rods. Heavy mono then ~50' of 20# Seaguar fluoro on the rigger/planer rods. Most guys I know use Powerpro, but there are still some guys out there using Fireline or other braids.

I do the same ( use cheap backing underneath my braid) works fine unless you're gonna fish for 25lb plus king salmon or ocean fishing 400ft of braid is all you need ..... unless you anticipate ALOT of tangles . Goodluck .

Braid 30 lb. on Dipsy rods and 14 lb. Trilene on my rigger and board rods. We run 20 and 30 lb. flourocarbon leaders on all rods. I wouldn't run to heavy of mono on my board rods cause you lose depth on the divers.

Guess I'll throw my .02 in.  I use 40 lb. Power Pro.  It is rated at 10 lb. so it has been my thinking that I will duplicate dive charts better since most of them are formulated on 10 lb. mono.  I also use 10 lb. mono or fluorocarbon as my leader.  I don't use line as a backer.  I just wrap some cloth tape, once around the spool so the line does not slip.   Use this set up on boards and dipseys with great success.  Whatever you decide, make sure all your rods and reels have the same set up so any hot pattern can be repeated.
