the need to survive can kill sometimes

Here's a buck a friend and I were watching.  We could never get a point count on him even from 40 yards away.  All we knew was he was a tremedous buck.

He was hanging near the road for the need for feed and water.  Otherwise, he may not have been crossing that road nightly, perhaps not at all.  All mountain streams are rock beds.  He was hit by a vehicle Sunday night.  Verified as a 14 pt.  Game warden has the antlers, 7 on each side.. on side got broken off by the wreck but was recovered.  I'm trying to get a pic.

Would love to see a good pic of him.  Looks like a monster.

Sucks that it was killed by a car.

So .. here's a pic of the dead buck.  I am not convinced this is the same deer.  Infact, I'm not that impressed by the rack but the bases sure are thick.  The realization now is that I have seen both of these bucks and the other one is much wider.  I could be nutz because velvet really can make it difficult to identify bucks.  I'm am impressed with this ones age though.  He looks to be headed downhill.  It appears to be missing a tine (supposively two, could have been a Y)

    Here's a better pic.

G2 10 inches.  G3. 9 inches.    Not a giant but the mass makes it look smaller than pictured.  I couldn't get my hand all the way about the base.  Lots of character.  Certainly an older deer but his teeth looked good so perhaps a few years younger than I previously thought.

Is it the same deer? I dont think so. The one from the trail camera looks much bigger. Both are great bucks though.....

There is a bigger one (refering to width) in this area.  Probably not as thick, not a 14 pt.  We think 12.  Unfortunately, we are pretty sure, the deer on the trail cam is the dead one.   Reason being: that pic was about 150 yards from where it was hit.  I've only seen the other one once but this one numerous times crossing.  His G3 leans forward a little bit.  His main beams curl in without going out near his nose..  I think the trail cam pic makes him look huge but the other pics make him look smaller.  He's somewhere in between.  I would have loved to shoot him.  I like older deer more than anything.  Just not many around.
