Birthday Gift

I have a friend of mine who I have recently got into fly fishing.  I try not to teach him much, considering I haven't done it for all that long.  I gave him all my books, and try to lead him in the right direction as far as where to get decent information on the internet.

That being said, I would like to whip up some flies for him for his b-day this weekend.  He has 3 kids and a wife who won't let him out from under her thumb for long, so he doesn't get out to fish much.  He gets to fish for WV stocked trout more often than anything else.  I was wondering, if I was going to tie up 10 patterns, with 3 flies per pattern, what would you go with to try to assure him some success?  He is into tying himself, but doesn't get as much time as he would like.

I am thinking, so far.....

1. BH PT, size 16
2. BH HE, size 16, olive, brown, and tan.
3. Bugger, size 12, white, olive, and black.
4. Foam beetles, size 14
5. Elk Hair Caddis, size 16
6. Adams, size 16, probably parachute
7. Hopper of some type, probably not a ear plug, size 12

I was thinking about maybe some stone flies, scuds, streamers, something for him to swing with, or maybe some latex caddis.  But I am sort of up in the air with it.  Wouldn't mind another dry pattern or 2 for him.

Oh yeah Tim, the Bass flies for the swap are finally in the mail, sorry it took me so freaking long to get them out!

Is there anything you guys would add to the list, or delete from it?  Thanks for your help in advance!

If you're handy with antron, Emergent Sparkle Caddis are a killer pattern when caddis are about but they dont seem to be taking them.

    Soft-hackles are simple and effective.

    For the hopper...go foam.

...maybe a **** creek nymph, just to rile his wife.
