If you look close at the vines hanging in the center of the pics, you'll notice a rub on one. I watched three different bucks rub that same vine in one evening while scouting. There is also a well used scrape nearby.

For a young deer nice long brow tines. Like to see him in about 3 years.
Question; should that first buck be culled out of the local heard. Obviously his first rack not very good genes by the looks. We have a couple young (2yrs old) buck on the farm that have a terrible second rack. Wish I could put someones youngster on them and cull them out before they breed.

I'd say no bings.  First three years of a bucks life, the nutrition is applied more to the body maturing.  Just as each of us are different weight and height and each of our bodies go thru difference changes.  I never got a gut until my body matured.  I never changed my dieting but I guess my metabolism slowed.  At 3-4 years for a deer, the change in the nutritions direction shifts to the antlers.  This years spike could be next years good looking 10 point.  I saw an 11 point last night but his spread was only 13 inches and the tines where maybe 4-4.5 inches.  Just a 2.5 year old.  He'd likely be a giant next year.  Genetics really don't shine until 3.5.  Something most of PA hunters never get to see on hoof.  Bucks generally only breed 1 doe a year, the older ones get one or two more.  Now, you get a 3 yo deer looking like that first pic drake has, that's bad news.   I'd hit 'em with the truck.  uh Jeremy  2.5 yo with a horrid rack is likely a question of debate.  Guess it'd be best to compare the changes the antlers took from this year to last.  I'd say get him canned if nothing changed in antler structure.  If they showed any reasonable growth, let 'em go.  I think in no way, should a 1.5 yo ever be considered to be killed because of lack of antlers.  That's like telling a 6 year old child that there's no way he will ever be tall enough to play basketball.  Not really true.  He could sprout at 9, or 13.

State Police and PGC caught two poachers (separate instances) in my area last week.    Antlers and backstraps cut off.  SOUNDS FAMILIAR.  Could it be....

Take a look at the last 2 pics I posted. Are they of the same buck? I think the last pic looks like a larger deer. Hard to tell though....

All the pics where taken within a 20 hour period. 19 pics where taken all together. There is a field full of clover about 12 yds to the right of the camera that they were all heading toward. There is a very large 8pt that has been feeding in that field nearly every night. He was traveling with those smaller bucks, but it appears he is not anymore. I've noticed more bucks by themselves over the past few days.

Yeah, a mean streak. I'm having a shtty day. Just had someone back out of a deal... last minute.  ...

But anyway, those guys who where poaching deserve a lot more than what they'll get. Makes me really mad.

We have a serious poaching problem around here. One reason we don't get to see 3&4 year old deer. There is a fellow here in our area he is one of the biggest poachers around. The PGC knows all about him. They just can't ever catch him. He has over a dozen of the largest whitetails you will ever see in PA. I'm talking 140 class and better. He does his own taxidermy so they can't even track him through that avenue.
I had problems with one of his trainees. I saw him sitting in my driveway watching my deer feeder with binocs. Went over and asked him what he was doing. He gave me a dirty look and said what the hell is to you..I said I own this land. He said FU and drove away. The next night he slowly drove by and flipped me the bird. The next night there was a different pick up truck in my drive way and it was the poacher I was talking about with this guy hiding down in the seat.Little did I know there was a huge buck seen in the field and they were looking for it. I read them the riot act get the hell of my property and don't come back.. He came back a week later and pried my deer feeders of the trees and smashed them.Thank God that nightmare is moving to Montana as we speak..
