A buddy of mine has a fishpond pack. They are nice and well built, but the price for them seems a bit outrageous to me, unless of course you find one on sale.

I like the William Joeseph packs better, especially for the money. I wear the Confluence model currently.

I have a Fishpond fanny pack I forget which flavor,  its actually pretty nice but I'm slowly weanin off it for a good coat with lotsa pockets.  If I was in the market for another the William Josephs are way better for the price and the magnetic closures are t*ts compared to zippers. . .

I have a fishpond pack....it's not waterproof so if you find yourself in deep water, everything in it will get soaked.....But I am not sure if any of them are....It must be that the zipper lets water in like a sieve cuz once the water is in, it doesn't come out unless you invert the **** thing.....Got it as a gift....I use mine all the time

I have the FishPond Blue River pack.  I wear it as a lumbar pack.
On the plus side... I like that I can fight a Steelie without a vest getting in
the way.  It holds a sufficient number of fly boxes.
I have had mine since 2002 and it is still in great shape.
I like the foam fly patch and fold down work-station.
The new model comes with a breathable mesh back so water can now drain out
    has a removable foam patch.
On the negative..... Can't stow a jacket in it.  Nor hang a net from it. Unless you use the neck strap and convert it to a chest pack.
Can't wade very deep.  But most of the time I have no need to wade waist deep.  Especially NOW!

I have the FP back pack/chest pack combo that i got a few years ago. The "Shooting Star" i think. It's allright, pretty well made. It's heavy, expensive, and i hardly ever wear the back pack. I got it for the smokies, but now i only really use it for long jaunts or days with big weather shifts. It does hold lunch, water, fleece and a tech wading jacket nicely but the temptation to overlad it is always there. I use it for a carry on when i travel too. The chest pack is allright. i usually use it with the sling on and wear it like a girly purse. I like my old patagucci waist (ok...fanny) pack better. I agree with the above rec. to look at megnetic closures. the zipper up fly patch kinda blows when you get bunny skin stuck in it..

Go william joseph and never look back. I got the Willy J Escape on clearance and it is awesome. Very well built.  Look on the madison river fishing company website for clearance deals on new packs.

I've got the Dragonfly chest/fanny pack. I found it a bit bulky and at the same time, too small for all my stuff. Somehow, the plastic buckle cracked.. I need to return it once the season is over.  I wear it as a fanny or sometimes sling when I'm doing a lot of walking. I think the quality is excellent and that broken buckle may have happened due to user misuse.

why not! you got the link i got the time... so many packs to choose from, i'm also seeing more close-out deals too. slings are no doubt more compact and the concept i'm likely to purchase.. i suppose a sling has got its place too

The other good thing about the sling pack is that it can be slid easy to your back and your front is in the free and clear. I have the same as anad and love it.

You really got me thinking, Let me ask you being that you mentioned that you tried or have three packs hanging unused.. which packs did try or own? I have a cheap gander guide chest pack i wish i never bought three four seasons old and never used! i thought is was what i wanted but it does seems a bit too much of a hinderance..i doubt it would last a couple seasons if i were to use it. Have you tried other slings? Why orvis and not fishpond or williams sling? thank for the help too.

I understand and am very greatful for your advice, I use a fannie softpack for now when hiking a stream when spin fishing and my old field&stream fly vest when flyfishing.. both serve their purpose for my needs but always wanted a zip out foam table for my flies .. also want the retractables such as shown on the WJ confluence along with plenty of room for beer etc. .. the fannie is my second plano softpack ..the first short lived due to poor stitching material/design..they gave me a free replacement but this one too is starting to fall apart.. i do not like hiking with a waiste fannie pak especially having to unbuckle it everytime after a few if you get my drift I like that sling but i also want the confluence for those long walks through the trails.. that orvis sling deffinitely is convient too getting in and out of the truck when i'm pool hoping along roadside streams on the upper delaware beaverkill willowemock and esopus.. especially warmer weather. So I'm still looking ..no rush this time .. i want to check out other slings.. sheeesh.. i seen them on sierra trading post dirt cheap those sling WJ but no more available.. still want to look around,.. do you use a lanyard or have your retractables on the orvis sling? what about leader dispensor? the confluence has those features plus the flap table for laying out bugs. When the fingers get cold, these features go a long ways imo.
