I stay away from it in the early season....Scares them more than attracts them...

I'm trying some new synthetic Buck pee in my mock scrapes and drippers..
You might want to try a search, we did a little non scientific study here on the board last year.
Many of us used doe estrus early.. Not sure how everbody made out can't remember..
I don't think it made any difference though either way.....

Now apple scent may be a hot one to try early as there are very few apples this year..

I use curiosity scent through the first 3 to 3 1/2 weeks ( just drag a trail in). Then I switch to some estrous (code blue) last year.

Better too far back, than too far forward.

I use DOCS deer scents. Early, I use just regular doe pee. If I find a scrape that is getting more use than others, I'll put a couple of drops in it. About the third week of October when the bucks really start cruising, I start using dominant buck and estrus.

i have the tarsal glands from the mature buck my buddy shot last year but have never used them before.  how would you guys recommend using them.  Have read a couple different techniques such as dragging them in, hanging it, and have read in one magazine there good to use early, and one said not to use early.  Anyone have any experience with using them?

I've had Luck with doc's dominant buck by making mock scrapes and using drippers and switching over to active scrap towards rut. The bucks take it right over and stay in the area and come around to check the scrapes.

Tarsal glands can be good early if you know there is a territorial big guy in your neighborhood.  If you're targeting any decent 2.5 yr old then I would not use tarsals at all.  Most advise I've ever heard, first person or otherwise has been more likely to shy away younger, 2.5 yr olds.

I've recently wondered if the apple scent would work better with the lack of this year.  If anyone has success or otherwise, please post.

Legally what is the difference between apples, apple juice, and apple scent? Other than the size of the bottle.
