The chartist's fishing report

Just got back from Erie after fishing Friday.....First started out at the Walnut marina, what a zoo.  There wasn't a square inch to be had on the wall.....There's fish upstream of the boat ramp but those fish are scared witless by the constant barrage by spoonchuckers.  There's no room for fly guys though a few did try at the upper end of that pool

ELK was not nearly as crowded and there was fishing space to be had.  I fished the whole day at the fallen tree pool by the parking lot.  There's a lot of fish in that hole.  But, theyr'e spooked too by the barrage of flies, spoons and sacks thrown at em.  I had a few hookups but landed nada.  Some fish were landed there.  No flies were working consistently.  I got one bite from just about everything I tied on but nothing worked for long.  I really think the water temp is a bit too high for a consistent bite.  I would keep the hook size to no bigger than 12.  Bug flies seem to be working better than bait fish types.  There's monser fish in that hole but there not exactly ready to attack offerings with gusto.

One fly fisherman got a solid hookup on what he said was 6x tippet.....I don't believe that for a moment.  Those are big angry fish and there's no way 3.5 pound tippet will hold em.  I saw fish there I know were over 30".  Anyway, the fish had lock jaw for the most part.  But it's gonna be fun once the weather cools and the rain picks up.
