Oak Orchard Trip!

A bunch of my college buddies and I are getting ready to make a trip to Oak Orchard and do some fishing sometime this fall. I was wonderin what the best time of the year to make a trip is, and also what to use, we will be spin fishing for the majority of the time...I am also bring my fly rod up to. There are salmon that run in Oak Orchard also right?

Thanks

Take a look at my post in the Forum below this one. The fishing is good right now in the lake and the river mouth. As we get more rain the fishing in the river itself will be very good.
Make sure you have enough backing on your fly rod outfit or you'll be buying new fly line there. Ron at Orleans Outdoors keeps plenty on hand.

IMHO the BEST fishing happens in Lake Ontario in July and August. Of course, that is boat fishing but if you think kings fight in the river in September or October you really should try a king in July or August when they are full of energy and have the cold water. Simply amazing!

I've never been there, but they get Salmon. Lots of people go in November for the Brown Trouts.
I hear it is worse than the SR as far as unethical practices going on. This is why I've yet to go. I really don't want to watch people snag my beloved Brown Trouts.

Tell us how it goes. I'd love to hear some reports from there.

i've heard the same as salmo.  a lot of sight fisherman (uggghh)...  i like to give the fish a challenge.  i heard you can practically pick the fish out of the water with your hands.  i prefer the diversity and challenge of a larger river.  but good luck.  i heard that november is killer for browns there though.

Salmo; The Oak does have some snaggers and unethical types. But at least the majority of them stay at the dam out-flow area. The rest of the river that is wadeable is a different ball-game. As for ethics, it is rare to see someone purposely snag. When there are lots of fish, plenty of foul-hooking does happen. It's a great place to go if you ever get the chance.

In the rivers that usually get a butt load of them I hear that. Never heard that about the SR, but you may be right.
