Emerald Ash Borer

What the heck does the EAB have to do with fishing ??
Well let me tell you..
This invasive forest pest is spreading across NY state and was recently found in Cattaragas County in those Purple traps you see.
So NY has put a moritorium on moving Ash out of Chautauqua and Cattaragas counties until Oct. 1..
I have 6 load of Ash packing my landing and can't move a stick across the state line...
So I'll just have to bore you all with some more fish pics, cause if I aint workin there's a fish gettin a hook stuck in his face somewhere..

This was a little bigger section of Oil Creek..
Many long deep holes..Beautiful stream..
Picked up 4 Rainbows and 2 dandy Browns..

I would like to send a huge thank you out to the idiot from the PGC that thought it would be a good idea to plant this crap(multifloral rose) in our state..
The banks are lined with it like a fence..You couldn't run dogs in this stuff it was terrible.

These fish really seem to be quite healthy and fat....

More of these in the stream every day..

Nice pics, I was told you cannot move any type of firewood from beaver, butler, allegheny, or lawernce countys to any other part of the state. You can call the pa game commission as i did. i have two cords here in beaver county i need to get to Jefferson. This was about a month ago I called. Hope like you said the ban expires in oct.

    nice pics.
You're in a tuff situation...good weather for fishing...also GREAT weather for logging the last couple weeks. The bat mill in Akeley won't buy the Ash??

I really miss skidding in this weather in the fall !!!

Not to be smart. But how did you conclude the "multiflora Rose" ( an "invasive species" ). was introduced by the PGC?

I've read in a couple magazines that the PGC introduced it in the 50's,as small game habitat, and now consider it an invasive species.

Multiflora rose (Rosa multiflora) is an invasive shrub that
can develop into impenetrable, thorny thickets. It has the
distinction of being among the first plants to be named to
Pennsylvania’s Noxious Weed List. This plant was
introduced from Asia and widely promoted as a ‘living fence’
to provide erosion control and as a food and cover source for
wildlife. Multiflora rose does provide cover and some food
value with its fleshy fruit (called 'hips'), but its overall effect on
habitat value is negative. Multiflora rose is very aggressive,
and crowds planted grasses, forbs, and trees established on
CREP acres to enhance wildlife habitat.

Multi flora rose is a great cover plant but is almost unstoppable to contain due to the large number of fruits produced each year and loved by birds.  We can thank the NSCS and PGC for propogating this one - it was widely distributed to farmers to plant for living hedgerows..

It's been against the law to transplant it for some time. The PGC gave it to land owners for fence rows for cattle & sm. game cover back in the 50's. They said it would not spread

It's nasty stuff but great cover for bunnies, pheasant, bobwhite, song birds, groundhogs, fox, mink, weasels & bedding ground for whitetail. The dogs & my buddies loved all the game.
