ATTENTION ALL MODERATORS

DUE TO THE SPIKE IN INTEREST FOR TUTORIALS IN PICTURES, AND VIDEO CAN WE PLEASE VOTE FOR A MOTION TO ADD A TUTORIAL SECTION TO THE BOARDS?

I THINK THIS WOULD BENEFIT TREMENDOUSLY IN HELPING TO TIE FLIES, SET UPS, AND TECHNIQUES....

ALL POSTS SHOULD BE SUBJECT TO APPROVAL FROM THE MODERATORS BEFORE CONSIDERATION TO BE POSTED TO THE SITE....

ALL IN FAVOR PLEASE TELL THE MODERATORS OR SOMEONE WHO CAN DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS.

Loomis - I second this suggestion. Moderators -Tying is such a diverse interest and there are so many different ideas, techniques, and ideas out there. This site and all the forums within it create a tremendous learning experience for us all. Creating a new section for tutorals would be a great resource. Personally, tying flies is a passion of mine and I love trying new ideas and methods. The learning is endless. Recently I posted a video tutoral of sorts which I had to upload the video to YouTube, then provide the link on my post here for others to view it. Kind of a pain in the butt so if it's possible to  upload video to your site that would be a great idea. I would imagine this would use more space in your hosting server but perhaps this can be worked out. If there is no interest from anyone running the site to moderate this  section - perhaps one of us would be able to do it. Either way, I personally believe it would be a terrific plus for this forum!!! and should be considered.

Funny... I suggested the same thing a couple months ago and everyone said... Why do you need to post videos when you can post a link...

Just to expand a bit on what I posted earlier on this subject - I know when I was starting out there were so many things that I basically had to learn myself through trial and error , like how to use a whip finish tool, how to dub, wrap hackle, ect. This new section, if created could help out so much to those just starting out in tying as well as those who have been at it for a while.  Plus if imbedding video is possible, just watching how another tyer uses his tools, works materials, ect. can offer so much information. There are alot of other sites out there where you could learn these techniques but we could make this site the place to go. The possibilities are endless. Exciting thought! Once again - let's go for it!

i don't think these boards would support video

the real problem would be if video was allowed... it would be allowed in every forum

    Sounds good to me...

I have no idea what servers they use here or if they would support it or not. Most other msg boards I post on allow it. You can embed sound bites into posts... video, gifs... etc...

I kind of wish there was a section for all types of tutorials....Jig tying, Egg Sack tying, Crawler harness tying...Not everything can be lumped into "Fly Tying Tutorial"....I don't generally tie flies, but I could add a lot of insight into the above categories.....

While I may be mistaken, I think that those fields are more "once you've got it, you've got it" type of skills. After a certain point, you're simply tying up variations on the same thing. Different colors of jigs, etc. While the same might be said of certain aspects of fly tying, I think the reason it warrants its own tutorial section is the same reason it deserves its own forum on the website. There's just such a huge variety of flies, methods, materials, etc.

Not saying that a tutorial for those things wouldn't be helpful (add to your list perhaps knots, egg/skein curing, rigging, fish-cleaning, etc), just that fly tying was the natural choice for a specific subsection of tutorials.

    How to tie a jig:

    Meet jig head.

Jig head wants introduced to material, "hi jig head" says material,

    "hello material" says jighead.

"Lets meet up" says jighead.  Jighead and material meet up,  Thread comes in from left.

"Can I join you two together?" says thread.

"Sure!" says both Jighead and material

    "Yay" says thread.

    Scene 2:

    Fish eats Jig

    Curtains Close.

There's more to constructing a quality sthd jig than what you may think. The best sthd jigs for fishing under a float are counter balanced so they hang horizontal  when drifted.  This is best done using the sewing stick pin solid brass bead method for making the jig head.  This is off topic here so will post a tutorial on the fish erie discussion board.
